The Black Dog - Spanners

Before "IDM" meant everyone ripping off Autechre and Board of Canada, you had projects like this putting out fairly mellow "home listening techno". There is a good bit of variety here and it's an engaging listen overall, even if it has dated a bit. When I'm in the mood I really enjoy this sort of thing, though I'd be lying if I said this was my favorite record of the genre or even in my top 10 for the style. These guys have put out a ton of stuff over the years (still active too) but I've only got a couple of their albums...

Lush - Split CD

Classic shoegaze/dreampop, one of the best bands in the genre IMHO, but never seem to get the respect these days that acts like MBV, Slowdive, Ride, etc. get. This is their second full-length, and probably their best, but I tend to think their early EPs/12"s as collected on "Gala" are my favorites by the group.

Buzzocks - Self-Titled - 2003 Album

I don't think I have to say too much about this band. At any rate, their later material is very underrated and this probably represents the best of that.

^I gotta get some Buzzcocks, I'm totally out of the loop with them.

Right now...

Hovercraft - Vagus Nerve / De-orbit Burn Remix 12" (Blast First) 1997

^I got this for 4 bucks in one of the records stores I just patronized while on vacation in Milwaukee, Bulls Eye Records. These two remixes by Scanner are basically ambient drone electronic music. Scanner is one of those enigmatic figures with a dark style of producing, turning repetitive noise into beats. This is miles ahead of the other electronic ambient styles back in the late 90s. This kind of thing would go well on Kep's I l<3 noise mixes.

RN...

Various - Tower 13 LP (Hostage Records) 2003

^Also from that same store in that same haul, for 7 bucks I could not pass up this punk comp. There's 2 or 3 tracks I don't like on this otherwise fantastic comp. Well worth the 7 bones.

I like their rant against CDs on here ((giggle))

^I don't hold the same anti CD stance as them but that was funny as shit and that right there is punk. Rock On
