Beastmilk - Climax

More retro post-punk from Scandanavia. Sounding pretty good so far. Haven't made it through the whole album yet.

Full Stream/Buy:

Also available on CD/LP from Magic Bullet Records I believe.

Right now...

Yo La Tengo - Fade LP (Matador Records) 2013

^Here's some of fairly modern Birkenstock hippy shit that I do not hate even in the least. For the most part, a lot of that uber mellow modern folk-rock with band names named after animals frankly kind of piss me off. But this band isn't really that in a nutshell, although this album would mix in with that stuff on a mixtape easily without sounding out of place. It's a slow tempo purely organic sounding instrumentation nature loving sound. Tree Hugger

I like it because it's not that pretentious, mezo-spiritual, must be shrooming to get it shit. It's laid back, and feel good but there's no dirty white dude with long dreads trying to juggle devil sticks being conjured as you listen to this album.

I like this album but I think I'm going to have to cue up some punk after this to offset the chill-axed nature of this. For me, music this laid back is great but it's better in smaller doses.

Unrelated to the music, I really like what they accomplished with that prism light angle reactive cover and back cover. You have to hold the album at an angle to read the track listing or the song titles are basically invisible. I have a couple of these covers with the prism effect but none of them can really touch the artwork on this.

Yo La Tengo has done some classic records for sure. I've not heard the one you posted but Painful, Electro Pura, I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One, and And Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out are all very good records worth your time. Often times they sound heavily influenced by the Velvet Underground but they have other things in the mix as well.

Watch out for the reissue of Painful ("Extra Painful") though. Many people reported major issues with the vinyl pressing. I decided to skip it entirely. I'll probably get the deluxe CD version at some point.

^I've been told by a few people to buy those albums, particularly "I can hear..." so I will for sure.

Painful is my favorite of the YLT albums I have or have heard. "I Can Hear" is probably the most critically acclaimed though. One of their best songs is actually on the "Today is the Day" EP, which I need to get at some point. They've put out a lot of stuff and have been around for a long time. Another band that I would compare to them in this sense (but not musically) is Superchunk. Lots of great albums, been around for a long time, kind off the radar of the current crop of hipster indie kids.
