^That whole album is so solid. You gotta be pumped to see him live.

Recently...

It's been all about De-evolving...

Devo - Freedom Of Choice LP (Warner Bros. Records) (Mexican Pressing) 1980

^My least favorite Devo album, but sadly the one everyone always seems to know about due to their goofy 80s hit "Whip it!". For some reason I landed this Mexican pressing which is sped WAY up so they sound like the damn chipmunks at normal speed. I gotta put the BPM slider all the way down to make em sound normal. I have no idea how the Mexicans screwed that up so bad. Not a big deal, there's a few ok songs on this, but it's hardly the groundbreaking album 80s critics made it out to be.

Devo - Jerkin' Back 'N' Forth/Going Under/Through Being Cool 12" (Warner Bros. Records) 1981 (Promo)

^Now that's more like it. Nice loud pressings of these tracks from New Traditionalists, obviously intended for radio play since it's so sharp sounding. These are the good tracks, particularly "Through Being Cool" a philosophy I can relate to on many levels.

Devo - New Traditionalists LP (Warner Bros. Records) 1981

^One of my favorite Devo albums. They lost their nonsensical style from the previous album and have more of a post punk sound and smarter wittier lyrics. Just the right amount of synth and pop and rock blended together seamlessly by sarcasm.

...and NICE! It came with the poster!

^HAHA!((giggle))

Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! LP (Warner Bros. Records) (Picture Disc) 1978

^Brian Eno's side project, their first album, arguably their best. Made famous by their off-speed, off-tune cover of the Rolling Stone's "I can't Get No Satisfaction", a great song but hardly the standout on this. I like most of the songs on this, although I had to grow into it a bit. Years ago when I first heard this I wasn't ready, I never understood the sarcasm they put right in your face, now I'm much older and more cynical and I get the message a bit better. This is a classic punkish rock album in my book and the more I hear it the better it gets.

This picture disc came with the flexi disc called "Flimsy Wrap"

^A cool short little live set, I have no idea how my copy (which was sealed) had a damn hole in the flexidisc all the way thru the film near the end, I guess this'll never make it on my best of Devo which Uptownkid for one is so excited to receive one of these days after I make it.

Devo - It's A Beautiful World 10" (Picture Disc) (Warner Bros.) 1981

^Great track, weird record. Why do his eyes have to be all whited out like the old Annie comics, did he see something in space that erased his pupils?

and since I'm playing catch up...

a few non-Hip Hop, non-Devos...

Sergio Mendes - The Great Arrival LP (Atlantic Records) 1966

^Like so many of SM's albums this is so mellow and so nice. Not my favorite album by his, I still like his Brazil years series better, but a great early classic nontheless. A great trade record w/ Truesone. Good call T! Like you said, I had to have this.

Various ‎– I Wanna Punk Rock - The Step Forward 7" Singles Collection Box (Castle Music) 2007

^On Black Friday I splurged a bit for my punk collection. I have been trying to get into more punk lately and this was a way to kill a lot of birds with one stone and brushen up on my British Punk singles. This UK import was spendy but it did get me a lot of quality pressed 70s and 80s punk greats that I never would have got any other way. No where near as heavy rock as the random local American stuff I have on 7's, but undeniably influential on that scene. Man, this will get me into the Fall, I really rate them now after sleeping on em my whole life.

I've been getting down to this African disco shit all day long after writing a small blog write-up for it:
