Freddy Hubbard - Skagly LP (Columbia Records) 1980

^Sweet cover. Admittedly that's one of the reasons I bought it. Well that, and the fact that it's a Freddy Hubbard record, it's kind of a no brainer. Except this one is by far the weakest one by him I have. There's a few ok songs, some with some sampling potential, but this one is hardly worth the 4 bucks I spent. Based on this flop I guess I'll stick to his earlier works from now on.

The JBs - Hustle With Speed LP (People Records) 1975

^Speaking of no brainers... So many classic breaks, so much fonky niceness. Classic JBs, and every single track on this is a stormer.

Muddy Waters - Electric Mud LP (Cadet) 1968

^DAMN. I knew this would be great, but I never knew how fantastic this would be till I gave it a proper listen. Apparently, when this was released in 68, it was quite controversial for Muddy Waters to pick up an electric guitar and inject his classic hits with so much psychedelic fuzz. Nowadays this is certifiably classic Mud. Found this nice OG pressing for 15 bucks, a hella deal for such a fantastic record. The backing band takes a lot of liberty with infusing short improvisational jams on these staple blues songs. File this under: Psychedelic Fuzz Guitar Blues Masterpiece. Highly Highly recommended.

Smith & Mighty - Same 12" (Studio !K7 Records) 2000

^"Same" is a timeless song. I never get sick of busting out this single. Downtempo niceness with one of the best female vocalists I've ever heard. The way she sings on the original song "Same" is, in a word, haunting. The subject matter is a sweet melody about everything turning out the same. This is one of those super cheap records online, one guy is only asking 4 bucks for it on Discogs. I think I gladly paid 20 for it when it dropped 13 years ago. I'd give this song an honest 10/10, which I almost never do, so it goes without saying that I would highly recommend this to music fans looking for good downtempo electronic music at a nice price.

Last night was a Drum n Bass\Jungle manday night for me...

Asylum - Da Base II Dark / Steppin' Hard / Desire 12" (Metalheadz) 2012 reissue of OG from 1995

Transit ‎– Afterburn / Blowback 12" (Pleroma Inc) 2001

Ganja Cru - Can't Handle The Streets 12" (Frontline Records) 1996

Various ‎- Through The Eyes 3LP Compilation (Full Cycle) 2000

Krust - Genetic Manipulation 2X12" (Full Cycle) 1996 and Mickey Finn & L Double - When The Morning Comes 12" (Urban Takeover) 1996

Dillinja - You Don't Know (The Remix) / Heavenly Bass 12" (Logic Productions) 1994

^All of these got bumped last night... Not nearly enough to make a Jungle mix but enough to get my blood pumping a bit. Really I gotta step up my D&B, those are ok, but other than the Base II Dark I don't have nearly enough classics. That reminds me, I still gotta get Krust's Warhead on wax. One of the best Drum and bass basslines of all time on that track.

^Not on wax unfortunately. But I like the few from him that I heard on a few mixes I have.

Yesterday...

Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese LP (Interscope) 1991

^One of the best bass players in the world IMO drops what would turn out to be in my book an alternative rock classic. He was just getting started when he made this but already his fret-work was sizzling. Besides the goofy 45 second intros on each side every single rock song on here is tight. I can relate especially to his fishing storytelling anthem "Fish on!".

Trouble Funk ‎- Straight Up Funk Go Go Style 2X12" (Jamtu) 1981

^Not sure why Discogs considers this a 2X12" it's really just a live album broken up onto four sides of wax. But whatever, this has some fantastic moments on it. Some really slept on live old school rap freestyles grace this record, some uncredited surprise appearances by various ground breaking MCs on this set. Some members of the Mastadon Committee to name just a few. Almost enough rhyming to put this in my Old School Hip Hop section, but since it's mostly a funky Go Go set, I keep it in my 80s\Electro\Disco\Go Go\Freestyle\Pop section... As if you cared where I keep it stored. CUCKOO CUCKOO!! Regardless, I see it's only 5 bones for this on Discogs, what a steal of a deal!
