Recently bumped these new nons...

Jonti - Twirligig LP (Stones Throw) 2011

^Peanut Butter Wolf pegged this guy as "the next psychedelic kid" and the reviews on this album are full of buzz words like "exciting" "original" and "unusual" by various other well known artists. I gotta say it was disappointing when I finally bought this and dropped a needle on it. It reminded me of another Prefuse 73 incarnation if he were to throw in about 1,000 more instruments into his mix. I am truly burnt out on that whole glitch sound, no matter how many ways it's revamped or spun, it is so spent. This one is worse than other experimental albums like that, so you gotta be in an extreme ADD state to sit and listen to this album all the way through. I almost made it, but eventually I had to shut it off near the end of side 2. Peanut Butter Wolf's taste in music is so much more eclectic than mine, so frankly, I shoulda known better and spent my money elsewhere. Chalk this one up as another mediocre Stones Throw album in my collection that annoys me.

John Hill's Six Moons of Jupiter LP (Finders Keepers) 2009

^Speaking of psychedelic, there's a good deal of fuzz guitar on this too. But also spoken word poetry, an orchestra, Moog synths and other vintage analog sounds. Like the one above this is very ADD, but really much more enjoyable and cohesive unlike the cluster-fuck style Jonti's album has. You gotta be in the right kind of (introspective) mood to bump this spacy sheet too, but it's really a cool record and an interesting piece of music. Finders Keepers is a great label for digging up relics like this that went under the radar and deserve to see the light of day.

Various ‎- In The Beginning There Was Rhythm LP (Soul Jazz) 2001

^Soul Jazz compiled this "funky post-punk" compilation back in 2001 and did a really thorough job collecting that unique early 80s sound. Some more familiar (to me) artists like Gang of Four, Human League, Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle have some really great and HTF B-sides on this along with artists I know nothing about but now will check for. This is a good comp for those trying to familiarize yourself with early post punk and early industrial music, I got it specifically for the Gang of Four track but luckily I got a whole lot more than I bargained for.

Recently (kind of a mixed bag of music...)

Elza Soares - O Bonde Sao Januario 7" EP (Odeon Records) 1968

^Wonderful Brazilian music here. She's such a classy lady, I love her.

...

and a lil D&B injection courtesy of my man Jay Brown...

...

Dieselboy + Kaos - Barrier Break / Submission 12" (Human Imprint Recordings) 2003

DJ Hype - Playaz Style 2X12" (True Playaz) 2001

DJ Ming & FS - Junkyard Drum N Bass I 12" (Madhattan Studios) 1998

^^^Really love Dieselboy, always have. He's easily my favorite American D&B DJ\artist. Besides that one I got a few more nice Dieselboys from JB. DJ Hype had some good joints on that too. That Ming and FS 12" is ok, the last track is really where it's at on that single. Ming and FS were blowing up a very young and fresh Jungle scene back in 1998. 1998, damn how time flies!

White Zombie - La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1 LP (Geffin) 1992 and Astro-Creep: 2000 LP (Geffin) 1995

^KICK ASS. Rock On I have been wanting these for SO long on wax, I had em on CD since they came out years ago but they were on my "I thought I'd never see the records" hit list. I bought the only 2 copies of each LP on the same day at my local record shop, I got real lucky. These are newer nice represses, I don't think they are that HTF any more, but they are still pretty expensive as a lot of rock represses seem to be nowadays. But man, it's well worth it to hear "Welcome to Planet Motherfucker" on proper loud ass vinyl. Seriously, what a rush when you blast that dope heavy track! Haven't given these guys a listen in years and it really brings me back to my longhair days hearing em again.
