Narciso Yepes - Greatest Hits LP

I don't know anything about this, but had to grab it because 1) it was $2, and 2) I like classical guitar and 3) it's on DG which tends to mean something in terms of quality. Listening now and enjoying it.

Check out this video:

^Great post!

Man, classical guitar is so impressive to hear like that. Classical and flamenco guitar are so subtle and so hard to master you gotta respect the effort it takes to get to that level.

Best thing is, some of the classical records are sinfully cheap because modern colored vinylses teens don't buy the stuff so you can clean up on super clean classical records that are real like this for lunch money.

^Yeah, I like Flamenco as well, but also don't know much about the stuff. I have a few CDs but it's one of those genres where I don't really know a lot. If you want to hear some really good flamenco, check out Sabicas and Paco Pena if you haven't already. Those are some artists I really enjoy.

Check out the guitar Yepes is playing. It's a ten string guitar with a really, really wide fretboard. I can only imagine how hard that is to play. Nowadays electric guitars like that are trendy in certain subgenres of metal (some of it sounds like mud to me), but I'd rather listen to this classical stuff.

There is a ton of stuff out there that hasn't reached the trend point yet. Often when I am low on $ that is the stuff I focus on because I can walk out of a store with a small handful of records for less than $10.

Some recent listens on the classical front. I have a bunch of these in this series that I bought as a group a few years ago that I'm just now getting around to listening to.

^I used to steer away from those "Great Performances" records because they were cheap and I thought they were cheeseball beginner only "Time\Life styled" Classical music. I was very wrong about that.

Sure they are still cheap, but the Leonard Bernstein "Great Performances" I have is truly a thing of beauty. Fission.

^Yeah, I probably thought the same thing at one point. The pressings are actually quite nice and the recordings are IIRC all performances from the 50s and 60s. They have a rawness to them that later, digitally recorded classical music can't match IMHO. I think there are something like over 100 LPs in the series.
