^That name is so corny I would've thought they were a joke band. I'll have to check this out a bit later.

^I half agree about the name. While it's corny that's partially the appeal of it. It's so bad it's good.

You really need to get that record man, it's unique enough and there's so much musical ambition and testosterone blended to where I can safely guarantee you'll love it. At only $12 for the record and the digital download and It'll ship out of Washington state so maybe $17 after shipping it's highly justifiable. It'll be one of your favorite metal discoveries I predict. Thank me later!

Ha Ha, I guess you could say that about the majority of heavy metal type bands too. I'd give it a shot if I wasn't on hiatus from buying stuff right now.

Darkthrone - Ablaze in the Northern Sky CD

Played this recently after not having put it on in some time. For those that don't know, Darkthrone was part of the second wave of black metal that was mostly centered around Scandanavia in the late 80s and early 90s. This was their second album (from 1992), but their first recorded in a "black metal" style as they had previously been making traditional death metal. Listening to the album, you can still hear bits and pieces of death metal but the raw production, buzzy guitars, and raspy vocals give it more of a black metal feel. If you're looking for some reference points, think early Hellhamer/Celtic Frost and early Bathory.

Root - Hell Symphony CD

Now here is a band I meant to check out for a long time but just never got around to until recently. Root are from the Czech Republic and date back to the late 80s. This is their second album from 1991. At any rate, if you like the sort of black metal before the genre became hyper-defined with all sorts of rules and sub-genres, this is worth checking out. It's fairly primitive in nature (surprisingly well recorded though), but entertaining if you like things like old Celtic Frost. Of course I take all the "evil" and "satanic" imagery with a grain of salt. You've got to have a sense of humor to enjoy this king of thing IMHO.
