He's the same one from Beastmilk. He was also in a band called Seed Saw at one point. I don't know if that one is still together or not. I have a cassette they put out a few years ago, and it's pretty far out there, too.

These guys are a fantastic metal band out of Las Vegas, meshing styles ranging from stoner rock to doom to hardcore (especially apparent with the vocals) with even a bit of old fashioned power metal thrown in here and there. They have somewhere around half a dozen self-released albums at this point.

This particular CD is a compilation, as the title suggests, with two original songs, three instrumental tracks, and three more live cuts rounding things out. Although they're all excellent music, the instrumental tracks stand out here to me. I think that space-metal leanings of Monolord are a fair comparison at times when it comes to these, with riffs like molten lava and some damn tasty solos backed by solid driving rhythms. The tracks with lyrics make it abundantly clear that these dudes have a sense of humor about all this on top of being standout musicians.

Satyricon - Volcano

By the time this album was released in 2002, Satyricon had strayed somewhat away from their roots in pure Norwegian black metal. This record showed a bit of growth with other influences creeping in. Hints of death and traditional heavy metal can be found here and there. There are still plenty of blastbeats and blackened guitars, and Satyr's vocals are growling right along, but as can clearly be heard from the production values, someone had an eye on a larger market. And with more than 15,000 units sold in the US alone, there was some success in that direction, although likely nowhere near what Columbia had hoped for. All in all, this is a solid album.

The CD version pictured above included the video of "Fuel For Hatred" as extra content, and in my opinion sounds superior to the 2 LP version released in Norway by Moonfog in 2003.

Never heard this one but I loved Nemesis Divina at the time and later bought the first two albums. I knew they got popular later but I had no idea they were ever signed to a major.
