Sleep - The Sciences 2xLP

I was surprised by how much I liked this album. One of the better heavy albums to come out so far this year.

Sleep - The Sciences 2LP (Third Man Records) 2018

^Super dope stoner rock album that I finally woke up to. I understand this was released on 4-20 of this year in a limited colored vinyl edition and evidently that day I slept on Sleep. Since that time I've had a hard time finding this on wax in a reasonably priced version of any color. But yesterday my luck changed and I found it locally reasonably priced. I notice this is now circulating online on the various big sellers sites so this must be the next round of pressings.

The music is uniquely great. They kinda have that Black Sabbath sound at times and kind of have that QOtSA sound at times but as a whole album they have a sound that is uniquely their own. The music is the opposite of pretentious, it just rocks, it has a chill downtempo stoney hard rock sound that I really love. I feel obligated to buy the one they dropped before this, I'm really digging this.Rock On

I thought this album was really well done. I'm probably in the minority but I still think Vol. 1 is their best album overall. Most fans lean towards Holy Mountain. I never got into Dopesmoker or whatever they renamed it - that always seemed like a gimmick album to me (one super long track) but maybe I should give it another shot.

Monolord - Empress Rising
RidingEasy Records, 2014

Some of the best doom metal around today. Nothing more to say really. If you're not familiar with this band, check out the video of the title track to this monster double LP below.

Shroud Eater - Strike The Sun
STB Records, 2017

This is excellent sludgy doom with some affinity for bands like Integrity and Neurosis. STB is one of those rare labels that I will blind buy from knowing whatever they put out will be pretty awewome, and that was the case with this album.
