Tau Cross - Self Titled LP/CD

So these days I don't really keep up with new releases as much as I should and this is a prime example of an album I'm only hearing some time after its release. The band is made of members of Amebix, Misery, and Voivod and they sound about like what you'd expect, with a significant nod to old-school heavy metal. I just listened to the album on streaming to check it out and I was pretty impressed with it. I might have to pick this one up at some point. Oh, and the production is way less overdone/Pro-Tooled than that Amebix reunion album, which I just couldn't get into.

Chaos UK/Extreme Noise Terror - Radioactive Earslaughter LP



Semi-legendary split LP from these two bands. The Chaos UK stuff is a lot rougher than their early punk rock EPs and ENT tears things up of course. My copy is a reissue from a few years back on Boss Tuneage, pressed on "radioactive" splatter vinyl. I think this is OOP now but should still be available at some distros and such.

Assuck - Anticapital CD



It's not very often that I'm in the mood for grindcore, but when I am, this album (along with some of the early Earache classics) is what I reach for. This CD version has some tracks from EPs that were not on the vinyl version of the album. All the band's material is OOP now IIRC, and this is their best work, IMHO.

Last Night...


Tool - Opiate EP (BMG Music)



^Classic EP in my book. Tool is one of those bands that was so good you almost hate them for it. But you can't hate someone for not sucking at their job so I love em still. This is the uber cheap reissue that's been floating around a long time. Not sure how legit it is quite honestly but I think it's legit and low budget.

Cool thing is the double threaded pressing on the flip side so you have to drop the needle a few times to find the alternate groove in between the grooves. It's a cool trick but when you flip the record over to the single groove it's noticeably louder and better sounding.

I'd love a legit copy of Ænima on vinyl, but the legit copies fetch $400+ on discogs and the bootlegs sounds like a very quiet CD pressed on vinyl, one of those shady boots that the presser did not care at all. Even the cover of the bootleg looks shitty.



Satan - Court in the Act LP (Metal Blade Records) 1983



^I'll admit it's slightly dated sounding at moments with the falsetto heavy metal vocal stylings of the early 80s at points, but those points are few and far in between a whole lot of ass kicking. These guys are precise, hard, and fast and there's no denying the skills this slept on 80s band called "Satan" had.

You know you rock, when the name of your band is "Satan"

Season to Risk - Mine Eyes / Why See Straight 7" (Red Decibel) 1993



^Discogs calls this grunge, I don't know, kinda hybridish. I hear metal but whatever, it's pretty cool. This 7" is cheap and sounds hot. This right here is the reason I buy rock singles on 7", for this kind of fat and loud sound quality. Both sides are pretty good but Mine Eyes, the A side, wins for a change.






^They were on a Columbia sub label , so they got a cheeky 90s video deal out of the deal. Still, pretty good quality audio at least.
