Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Extra Width LP (Matador) 1993



^BLUES EXPLOSION MAN!!! Take a whiff of my pant leg!!! YEAHHH!!! These guys put on one of the best live shows, I make an effort to cop all their releases. In a nutshell, it's like a hybrid of punk, rock and blues, very loud lots of YEAHHHS!!! Top notch hipster rock from the 1990s who worked with everyone from Beck, to Ass Pocket of Whiskey RL Burnside, to DJ Shadow, to Jack Dangers, and so on and so forth.



Ten Years of Stones Throw LP (Stones Throw) 2007



^Pulled this out again after forgetting about it for a few years. This is only one of several Stones Throw compilations I have that are compiled with the dopest shit Stones Throw has to offer. Peanut Butter Wolf knows how to make a compilation, I'll give him credit for that, and I'll always cop his comps. His mixes are pretty dope too, but some of em can be way out there.

Brownout - Oozy CD (Nat Geo) 2012



^My favorite track off the Modern Funk Selctions comp I just dropped doesn't have this on wax, and it was TOO DAMN HOT to not track down the CD. Hard to review this since I'm at work so I'm automatically not gonna appreciate it as much as I would if I was at home in my studio with a beer in my hand, but I can already tell it was WELL worth the 11 bucks I spent on it. The guitarist on this funk band is phenomenal.

Last night...

Flaming Lips - Transmissions From The Satellite Heart LP (Warner Brothers) 1993



^Yet another Flaming Lips album in my collection, this one I slept on when it was a semi-crossover alternative hit back in 1993. The worst song on the album is "She Don't Use Jelly" yet it was the only song that ever broke the charts. There are a few monster songs on this album, but this is definitely not the best FL album IMO.



Shit Robot - From The Cradle To The Rave LP (DFA Records) 2010



^Man! As a huge fan of the few 12" instrumental electro\techno singles I have from this guy, this album was a genuine letdown. Why would he put singers on top of his signature styled heavy electronic beats is beyond me, it reminded me of your typical ecstasy-loving tech house music, I thought the title was a joke, turns out he was serious. There are 2 or 3 good songs on here at most. I'm not giving up on Shit Robot yet, but I'll definitely peep the samples before copping another expensive (in this case) album.
