RN...

Japan Droids - Post Nothing LP (Polyvinyl) 2015 RE of 2009 OG

^Once in a while, when you take an educated guess on a record you get it right. I knew nothing of this Canadian Duo, but I saw a few posts, heard a few things, and found this record sealed locally for way less than the going rate at Discogs. It was reissued earlier this year on RSD as a white vinyl version but like many "limited" RSDs eventually when the "limited" runs out, it turns to "Oh look here's the exact same thing on black vinyl" (which I prefer more times than not).

So the music... This duo sounds like a trio or even a quartet. This is thick but simple, not over-produced but full sounding and rich tones. This is modern indie rock BTW, and fairly hard to put into any box other than that. It's not emo, despite the cover and track titles, it's actually heavy, simple and eloquent.

I'd highly recommend this to all of you, for me this is an easy, better late than never recommendation.

Here's "Sovereignty"

Say Anything - Is A Real Boy
I guess this falls in the pop punk catagory . I would call it an emotional record on steroids . This is one of those albums that I heard a lot in my wife's car and it really grew on me . There's a little punk rock attitude here and a lot of lost love . Not a bad listen for me . There's also a good amount of humor on this album ...

Paul Weller - Saturn's Pattern

Recent album from Paul Weller. I know next to nothing about his solo career, but I do love the Jam as well as the higher points of the Style Council even. This album has been getting pretty high praise for a late career solo album, so I grabbed this disc when I saw it cheap at a nearby store. I gotta say I'm pretty impressed. It starts off with a harder rocking track (not my favorite) but then goes into some Bowie-isms and some psychedelia with electronic flourishes that seems to work a bit better. Very enjoyable stuff overall, makes me wonder what I'm missing from his solo stuff.

Rupert Hine - Immunity

Darkish synth music from the early 80s. This has been on my wantlist for years but I never got around to getting it. Not exactly the easiest thing to find either. The only in-print physical version is an expensive Japanese CD and the one time I did come across the LP in the wild it was too scratched up for me to make the purchase. Finally settled for a reasonably priced paid FLAC download.
