The Wake - Here Comes Everybody - 2xCD Reissue (Factory Benelux)

The Wake's first album is kind of a bog standard, 2nd or 3rd tier post-punk album from what I remember. But on their second album, they really got things right and changed up their sound into a dreamy mix of jangle pop and gauzy synth textures. This is the sort of thing you'll either love or hate, depending on your appreciation of 80s indie music from the UK. Personally I love it and even all the bonus material on this edition is very solid.

Mekons - Original Sin

The Mekons are a band I've been meaning to check out forever, just never got around to until recently. This CD compiles their critically acclaimed "Fear and Whiskey" album along with some contemporary EP tracks. I guess this is the sound that people would eventually refer to as "Alt. Country" or whatever.

Totalitar - Ni Maste Bort! CD

Swedish hardcore punk from the 90s, though this band dates back to the mid-80s. I guess some people feel this is their best album, but it's tough for me to agree because I like pretty much everything by them and the band just kept getting better and better as time went on IMHO. Often thrown in with the whole d-beat thing, but this record doesn't have too many Discharge-y riffs. Instead it sounds a lot like the more extreme end of early 80s North American hardcore, but beefed up considerably. A few tracks have a mid-tempo-ish feel reminiscent of older straightforward punk rock. Of course the vocals are unintelligible screaming/yelling.

NoMeansNo - Wrong CD

Fairly complex, highly rhythmic take on punk rock. This band is tough to describe, so I'll just say check them out. I know this is one of their more popular albums (they have a huge catalog and have been around forever). Unfortunately it's the only one I have.
