^^Agreed x2, it's so nice to see good blues albums in here. I wish I spent more time focusing on that genre myself. Sometimes I get caught up in other genres and forget about the roots music like the blues. worried

^I like all the Huskers stuff from Metal Circus through Warehouse. Some of the earliest hardcore stuff is good too, but I haven't spent a ton of time with it. In general I think there were other bands in the 80s that did the fast/loud/straightforward HC thing better, which is kind of why I think Husker Du moved on from that stuff pretty quickly. I think there are some songs on NDR and Zen Arcade that you could still call hardcore (maybe melodic hardcore?) but it's obviously they had moved on from all that by then too.

^^Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of Husker Du, even though I should be given their locale in relation to me, but from what I've heard and in general I do tend to lean more to the heavy stuff.

In this lineup of the 3 and only 3 records I have from them I'd rate them right side is my fav, left side my least fav. It's a smidgen of their bigger catalog and side projects and solo works but that's how I rank them based on my preferences for the sound of glorious organized chaos.

Not that I don't love the more advanced, more grown-up post punk sound they grew into, it's just that I just love the sheer energy and high speed of "Land Speed". In terms of the sound quality it comes in last place compared to the other two, but the "hunger" (I can't put it any other way) is there with that very raw terribly live EP.

Frankly I'm kind of pissed at myself for not seeing these guys live when they were around the corner at college basement keggers and no one cared, it's one of those hindsight is 20/20 things.

By the time I got into the band they were long gone. I think Sugar (Bob Mould's post-HD band) might have just been coming to an end and he was doing solo stuff of course. Mould has been through various places I've lived in, but I've never seen him. I've heard that he still puts on a great show. Very different from HD of course.

That is definitely an odd bunch you've got there in terms of a cross section of their discography. For the more hardcore stuff, you'd probably like Everything Falls Apart. Metal Circus and Zen Arcade are both must owns IMHO. Those are midway between the harder stuff and the sound you hear on NDR.

These Animal Men - (Come on Join) The High Society CD

I got this CD awhile back but haven't given it enough play time really. Listened to it again last night. This is definitely the sort of UK/Anglo-centric kind of band that would never be able to gain any real popularity in the U.S. The sound is a mixture of power pop, punk, and hyped up glam rock. At times, the whole thing blazes by so fast that the songs don't really stick, but it's a fun album. I've heard that their second album is better, but I haven't gotten around to getting it yet.

Chelsea - BBC Punk Sessions CD

These guys were one of the "2nd tier" bands out of the whole UK '77 punk scene, but they're good. Oddly enough this is the only thing by them that I own. Sometimes I will see their 2nd LP in the used bins, but I've heard that pales in comparison to their best stuff.
