@Rchecka,

All the vinyl I have of Sun Ra are Scorpio Reissues. None of them are bad sounding, but I think they could be better. Comparison clips of old Saturn Copies, the Scorpios, and recordings of the original master tapes have confirmed this.

Ever since reading about this:

I've been holding out for some reissues that are closer to the master tape source than what is broadly available now. There have been a couple recent comps/reissues on CD and LP taken from this new campaign but they decided to release everything through Itunes first. I think some better reissues on vinyl or CD will surface, it's just a matter of time.

And yeah, Lanquidity is on my to buy list.

Yeah, Scorpio does do a lot of them. I have a few from them but many from other labels including Norton, Kindred Spirits and a bunch of other indie labels that I can't recall besides that.

I'm sure they will. I'm sure a lot of Sun Ra that's never been formally reissued or even released on vinyl at all will surface as well. There's a massive amount of Sonny's music in limbo that might get released and much of it that will never even get discovered.

Freddie Hubbard - Red Clay

Early 70s Freddie, moving into fusion territory a little bit but not overly so. Great album.

Musta Paraati - Peilitalossa

Post-punk from 80s Finland. Reminds me of Killing Joke a bit, maybe not quite as aggressive. Nicely done reissue on Svart Records.

^That sounds really interesting.thumbs up

RN...

The Soft Boys - Underwater Moonlight LP (Armageddon Records / Yep Roc) 2011 RE of 1980 OG

^This band is one of those "quintessential" snob rock bands that you hear about every so often. It's actually listed in my Rock Snob's Dictionary book I have. So when I found it online in this cheap modern reissue I jumped on it. So, let's just get this out of the way, avoid this pressing, it is not that good, it's a heavy pressing but it's cheap and it sounds cheap.

But the music is definitely noteworthy, and at least I got a chance to figure that out with this reissue. I can see why this along with bands like Television and Soft Machine ended up in that book, the album is very heady, I'd say post-punkish but also indie-rockish, but regardless it's very interesting.

I don't like the first few tracks, in fact I hate the first one, but eventually this thing gets really good as an album, especially by the time you flip the record, because the B-side is killer. I like it when albums have an overall signature sound yet still sound different from track to track. The album is cohesive even though there's a gradual evolving diversity from the beginning to the end.
