Theatre of Hate - Westworld

80s post punk. By the name you'd think they were some sort of goth type band but they really don't give off that vibe at all. There is strong rhythmic undercurrent as well as some spaghetti western touches here and there. Good stuff. Produced by Mick Jones from the Clash if you can believe that. They had a bunch of live releases before this one, but this album, from '82, is their first proper full length.

Theatre Of Hate sure liked the reverb. Cool stuff - not sure if I've ever heard it before. As far as Mick Jones and spaghetti westerns goes - cue it up at 4:10:

@Whyaduck, welcome!

That record looks interesting. I always look for 70s jazz when I'm browsing used vinyl. That stuff is WAY undervalued among record collectors and jazz nerds IMHO and there are a lot of gems out there that can still be picked up dirt cheap or at least at reasonable prices. I will definitely keep an eye out for that one. There is a store near me that seems to specialize in 70s jazz, and I picked up a lot of radio promo editions of albums that looked like they had never been played there. I'm going to miss that store when I leave.

Thanks! That one was just to start - later I'll post pictures of my Brand New collection!

Agreed re: 70s jazz. A local shop (Record High in Phoenix - highly recommended) recently bought an absolutely mint collection that was very heavy on late '60's through '80's jazz. They priced and put out about 100 or so records a week and I'd go by every weekend and leave with 10 or so discs. I picked up both of those self titled Old And New Dreams titles, some McCoy Tyner, Ornette Coleman, Dollar Brand, Horace Silver, Mingus, Monk, John McLaughlin, Toshiko Akiyoshi BB, and others - all in perfect condition. A few were in the $30 range, but most were $10-15.

Bullet Lavolta - S/T

1988 EP on Taang.

Post punk proto-grunge with a bad childhood. Comes right up against hair metal without quite crossing over. Don't listen to the words.
