Some great stuff in here lately . I haven't had much time to do anything lately , much less really sit and enjoy an album . But right now I'm listending to one of my favorite Latin soul joints ever ...

Sam & Dave - Soul Men

1967 - Stax, US

Not exactly a hidden gem, but I've got to put it up. Soul Man was the only hit off this record, but it's full of great songs. Hayes and Porter produced, the Memphis Horns and Booker T. and the MGs provide the backing - how can you go wrong? Here's a few of the non-hits:

Very nice. I'd like to see some high-end reissues of S&D stuff. Every time I come across old pressings of their stuff it's usually trashed. I have a couple of CDs and this LP, but the LP is unfortunately heavily NR'd or something and doesn't sound great.

Eddie Bo and Various Artists - In The Pocket With Eddie Bo

2008 - Vampi Soul, Spain

This is a collection of hard to find New Orleans soul and funk produced or performed by the late great Eddie Bo. Most of the early releases are mastered from vinyl, so sound quality's all over the map, but for the most part it's good or at least not terribly distracting. There are some real burning tracks on this comp. Check Your Bucket is probably Bo's best known single on the disc:

One note - my favorite track is listed as Boogaloo Mardi Gras, Pt. 1, but it's actually Dance Of The Sophisticated Sissy (thanks to Siri for solving that mystery) - I wish I could find a stream of it somewhere - it's got a great groove.

Absolutely worth picking up. Also, if you like New Orleans music, check out the stream from www.wwoz.org - one of the best radio stations in the country.

^Great post. Eddie Bo has some killer funk 45s out there some of them are super expensive and others cheap, but they are all pretty good. Another artist I wanna get deeper into.
