On a bit of a 90s nostalgia kick this morning and decided to put this on. Originally released on the ill-fated Conversion label back in 1995, this was a breath of fresh air during the mid-90s when chugga-chugga metalcore was seemingly taking over the hardcore scene. Ignite's sound is reminiscent of 80s melodic hardcore bands like Uniform Choice and Verbal Assault but still doing their own thing. Actually, IIRC this band had a couple ex-members of UC and No For Answer also. The bonus track here is a cover of "Screaming for Change", which is great BTW.

Anyway, the album is varied enough to stand out from the typical old school hardcore rehash. In addition to the fast songs, there are some midtempo and slower songs to balance things out. The real secret weapon here though, is Zoli's voice. He sounds like a cross between Pat Dubar and a controlled Rob Halford. After this album, the band would put out a follow up EP (Past Our Means) that was pretty good and then signed to a bigger label after going through some lineup changes. Some of the later stuff I've heard after that EP was decent but this album sets such a high standard that I don't think they could ever top it.

Although Conversion is long gone, Revelation Records kept this album alive by reissuing it on CD and LP during the 2000s.

I first heard these guys on a comp back around '95 or '96, but didn't get to see them play until sometime in late 2000 I think. Great band. That dude has such a powerful voice. I need to check this album out.

Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers - The Furious Era 1979-1987



So here is a discography collection I've been waiting for a long time. These guys were a semi-legendary hardcore punk band from Italy that definitely have their own style. Rather than attempting to describe their sound, I'll just say take a listen.

Unfortunately distribution of this title is rather limited in the U.S., so even though it's been out since March I only found out about it a few days ago. You can order this directly on 2xCD or 2xLP from Italy but it's quite pricey after postage. I ended up just getting the FLAC download via Bandcamp.

This is a band that should have gotten way more attention than they did here in the States. I have the 400 Fascists 7" around somewhere, along with a dubbed cassette with some other stuff of theirs. I definitely need to look into picking this up if I can run across a copy somewhere.

Definitely pick it up if you can on some format. I think the CD set is around $30 with the LP set being $40-45 IIRC. The FLAC download was around $8. I can say that it's pretty solid all the way through, even if it is really long - almost 2 hours worth of music.

Tons of great punk/hc bands from Italy. A lot of the 80s pressings of those records are quite hard to find and/or expensive here in the U.S. but these discography type collections are usually a lot more reasonable.
