Dark Circles actually reminds me a bit of these older bands:

Sadly I sold off my copy of that 2x7'' many years ago. Used to be a favorite of mine back in the 90s. There is also a discography CD I meant to get at some point but it's OOP now and going for high-ish prices.

These guys were (unfairly, IMHO) ragged on as as a His Hero Is Gone ripoff (a band I love), but I think they had a bit of their own flavor going on.

And of course this is one of the very best underground HC albums of the mid/late 90s that everyone should own.

The Proletariat - Soma Holiday LP

Now here is a band I've tried to get into multiple times over the years and they're only clicking just now. The Proletariat were closely tied to the early 80s Boston Hardcore scene but their sound was more like hardcore kids playing angular UK-inspired post-punk, heavily influenced by early Wire and Gang of Four. Lyrics are heavily left wing political, much moreso than most U.S. hardcore bands from the 80s. This copy is a recent reissue authorized by the band that sounds really good. Not sure who cut the lacquers but it was pressed at RTI. Worth checking out if you're looking for some angry punk rock related music that's a bit different from the norm.

The Proletariat - Soma Holiday LP

I have to pick this up. Sounds like a solid album. The only thing I have from them are the few songs on the This Is Boston Not L.A. comp from back in the day.

Yeah, that's where I first heard them, more specifically a dubbed tape of that comp that someone gave me years ago. I would say this LP is better than those tracks. There is still some of the faux-UK accent going on but it's subdued a bit and the band sounds tighter and more powerful. I'm kinda curious about their second LP actually. That one sells for around $30-40 for a really clean copy and hasn't been reissued yet. I don't know if there are plans for a reissue or not. There is a 2xCD discography from several years ago that TAANG put out but I'm not sure about the sound quality on it, or whether the band still supports that release. That label seems to have a pretty murky reputation these days.
