I've meant to buy that Melvins reissue as well as the Lice-All one since they were out, just never got around to them. I actually have zero Melvins in my collection right now as I no longer have my Gluey Porch CD (I know, I know).

WoFat seems interesting, never heard of them either, though I'm not really up to date on the current stoner rock scene at all.

Band of Skulls - Sweet Sour CD

I'm pretty out of touch with a lot of newer bands, but I discovered this group after hearing the CD being played at a local record shop. This band is tough to describe. On one hand they've got a riff-heavy power trio thing going, then on the other hand they have slower, more ballad like songs. The vocals trade off between male and female and sometimes harmonize together. Reportedly, they are excellent live. This is their second album, which is also available on LP, but it's an expensive import here in the U.S. Their latest album (4th one) will be released soon. I'm hoping they do a U.S. tour and I can make it out to see them.

Blue Oyster Cult - Secret Treaties LP

A lot of people don't know this, but BOC were a killer band early on, and sounded nothing like their later radio hits (which are okay). Their first three albums are killer, very unique hard rock LPs that don't really sound quite like other bands of the time. Admittedly I was spurred to investigate this stuff because the guys from Radio Birdman name-dropped them at one point IIRC. At any rate, this is their third and best album, IMHO. Great hard rock bordering on proto-metal or even proto punk sounding stuff, dark themes, and none of the bloated production you get with a lot of 70s hard rock either. My copy is an old Canadian pressing, but any old pressing of this album you can get your hands on will probably sound fine.

Last night...

Pantera - Far Beyond Driven LP (Rhino Records) 2010 RE of 1994 OG

^Any time I have a bad day where I'm really pissed off about something I bust this out. It's my free therapy.

Needle drops, I start off pissed off, and as I listen to Phil's rage mine seems insignificant and by the end of the last song, their stunning cover of Sabbath's Planet Caravan, my anger has basically all fizzled away. Every single time this happens.

I remember many many years ago long before I met my wife, when I broke up with random girlfriends this was my go-to album. When I had shit days at shit jobs and came home to eat Ramen this was my go-to album. When anything "fuck the worldish" happened, this album made it better.

^I saw Pantera live at least 4-5 times and to this day I think they were the best live act of all time. They energized crowds like no other band. Rock On

It's so sad about Dimebag getting shot by a mad fan, he was an incredible musician. When he died, I busted out this album.

^^ Dimebag was cool . I met him at an all night coffee shop in downtown Nashville called Jitters . He was really down to earth and humble towards us . As for Phil , there was an incident here with him one time that made me lose all respect for him . I just can't take him seriously anymore ..
