Speaking of Barry Adamson...

Barry Adamson - Know Where To Run LP (Central Control Records) 2016

^WOW.

OK, remember, I'm a huge fan of Barry A, but like all great artists he's had a few mediocre releases over the years and I bought this with high hopes only. You already may know this but Adamson was a bassist for the band Magazine as well as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds before he went out in his solo career. You can describe his solo work as an eclectic often dark embrace of imaginary film soundtracks. Usually his eccentric sound is dark and jazzy, heavy of on the dark jazz vibes.

Now, in 2016 he drops an album that is so good I gotta stop the record to type this. He's at a self realized pinnacle level on this album, I'm not saying it's his best work but he's definitely at the top of his game on this. Highly recommended to the Barry Adamson fans or anyone who likes moody David Lynch funded cinematic jazz.

^That album sounds interesting. Admittedly I've never heard any of his solo work.

Convextion - 2845

Really good album of space techno, some strong electro and Detroit-esque moments. It's out on 2x12'' but I bought the FLAC version from Bandcamp for now.

Pretty Voices - Jangular

These guys are a band from St. Pete that I saw open for Soul Asylum last week, and I was just blown away by them. I have to say, the live show was better than they sound on the album, but that's generally my experience with any rock band, no matter how big or small they are. I enjoyed these dudes so much that I actually paid to download the album from Amazon. Unfortunately it's not available on record, and the only CD copies are ones they sell at their regular shows in and around the Tampa Bay area.

The crowd was only about 50 people when they played, but you would have thought they were full blown rock stars in front of an arena full of fans. They are really into the music, and it comes across in the form of a high energy performance with surprisingly professional sound for what's basically a local bar band. They impressed me so much that Saturday I'm making a 200+ mile round trip to see them play on their own at a club up in Tampa.

Their sound definitely draws from early New Wave bands, which is a big plus for me personally. The Cars, The Knack, and a touch of Cheap Trick and Elvis Costello all come to mind.
