Asylum Party - The Grey Years Vol. 1 2xCD



Volume 1 of a two-volume discography set from this French coldwave/post-punk band. If you like you're post-punk with drum machines, synths, and a general sound that skirts the edge of old-school goth rock, you'll like this band. This volume covers their debut mini-LP Picture One (1988) and the cult classic Borderline LP (1989). The latter is the main reason I acquired this set as standalone copies on LP and CD are very hard to come by and expensive. This set here is limited also, just 300 copies were pressed late last year.

I have those two albums and the Ticket To Ride single, but haven't listened to them in a long time. I'll have to pull them out one day. I think I used to have the third album on cassette, not sure if I still do or not. Good stuff.

Wow. Haven't run into too many folks that have even heard of this band, much less have their old records. Their version of TTR is funny, totally unnecessary but I like how they made it into a goth rock album. The third album is pretty good but not as good as the first two IMHO.

Alice Cooper - The Eyes Of Alice Cooper
Eagle Records, 2003



This is one those great, solid albums that Alice Cooper put out back in the early 2000s that, in my opinion, just didn't get the attention they deserved. There's nothing groundbreaking or earth-shattering here. Just good, punchy hard rock that knows better than to take itself too seriously.

This is far better as a whole album than anything he did between 1975-1980. Those records had maybe one or two decent songs, and then nothing but filler the rest of the way through. Yet I've seen people shell out as much as $50 for a pile of crap like Lace And Whiskey while these albums still go unnoticed and unappreciated. If you're in the market for some fun, good time rock 'n' roll, pick up some of these albums on CD for a buck or two and enjoy!
