RIP, too many musicians dying lately...by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
No but feel free to start your own thread in the non-hip hop section. If you could tell us a little bit about the stuff you bought that would be great.by LionsMouth - General Discussion
Joe Henderson Featuring Alice Coltrane - The Elements LP One of Henderson's more sought after records from the 70s, this is a recent reissue by the Jazz Dispensary label. Side 1 is slightly funky and smooth, while Side 2 gets more adventurous and psychedelic. Recommended for anyone that likes 70s jazz in general. Don't overlook his other records from the 70s either. ^Nice. That's one of those albums I've seen around, namechecked, etc. but never heard. Always nice to upgrade like that also.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoteslavikcc Yeah, at this point, I'm pretty much done talking about /r/vinyl so I will change the subject. Anyways, I'm heading to the London, Paris, Brussels, Cologne and Berlin next week for a two week trip with my best buddy, so I hope to hit up a few record shops along the way while doing the standard touristy, sight-seeing stuff. On the other hand, I'm somewhat nervous dby LionsMouth - General Discussion
So we don't get too far down the rabbit hole of r/vinyl bashing (the place is terrible enough), I'm going to link to my latest record post here:by LionsMouth - General Discussion
Born Without a Face - Sound Recordings 1984-1986 2xLP BWAF were a somewhat obscure hardcore punk band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. While they were around, they only released two self-released 7'' EPs and two cassettes. Those are pretty tough to find these days and because the band wasn't on a "big" punk label, nothing got reissued until about five years ago. Theby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Willis Jackson - Please Mr. Jackson LP Laid back soul jazz circa 1959. Unlike the other Brother Jack McDuff-associated record I posted recently, this one focuses less on upbeat groovers and more on the soulful, slow-burn tracks. Great for late night or early morning listening. Discogs Pageby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoteslavikcc QuoteLionsMouth Yeah, one of the big problems for me was that a few members put a lot of work into those guides. I thought they were well done and served people pretty well whether they wanted to purchase new or used equipment. The problem was, hardly anyone seemed to actually look at them. If they did, a lot of questions would've been answered and it would've avoided soby LionsMouth - General Discussion
Quoteslavikcc Since I noticed a number of /r/vinyl former posters and refugees in this message board, I've been paring down my postings on the subreddit due to the sheer number of low-effort and low-content threads and posts seeking insta-validation, increasing trolling from various posters, poor and lacking proper moderation, people posting misinformation about Crosley/LP60 players, etc. Aby LionsMouth - General Discussion
Kenny Burrell With the Brother Jack McDuff Quartet - Crash! LP Not an album you'll find on any jazz best of lists, but a very nice LP indeed. Lots of nice interplay between McDuff's organ and Burell's guitar. Love the cover as well, and this is one hasn't been subject to massive jazz collector price inflation yet. Quoteslavikcc Hi everyone, I'm yet another /r/vinyl refugee due to the current affairs over there, which I was introduced to this message board by LionsMouth. I've gotten a lot of great Blue Notes jazz recommendations from his imgur galleries and threads on /r/vinyl and ever since getting pressings from Music Matters, thanks to him. My music tastes involve in black/death/thrash/NWOby LionsMouth - General Discussion
Shoes - Present Tense LP Shoes' first album on a major label, a bit more sugary and slick compared to their famous "Black Vinyl Shoes" LP. Still a solid album with catchy songs that is well worth grabbing. Found this as a sealed cutout recently for a cheap price and couldn't pass it up.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quotewhoisfrank ISS - (Endless Pussyfooting) LP Hey everyone. It has been a long time since I've been on here. Life kept me pretty busy over the past month. Anyways, I came across an interesting release a few weeks ago on Bandcamp from Erste Theke Tontraeger, a German label that puts out some really interesting and unique punk. There's an extensive overview of the release on the linkby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoterchecka ^So in other words, don't bother and just play the CD. Gotcha. Windows media player evidently supports playback so it must not be completely out of the question. Quoterchecka ^My drive is a pretty high end Plextor burner from back in the day so I hope it does decode it but that's solid advice, I'll try that to be sure. On a computer, the decoding should be done by the hdcd.exe file which is part of Windows. That is true no matter what program you are using. The problem with CD ripping programs is most don't decode or do anything to recognby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
HDCD compatibility is usually a software issue AFAIK, though CD players do work off a decoder chip if they are able to decode HDCD (I don't think computer drives do). Since HDCDs are not very common anymore most newer CD player manufacturers no longer offer this feature. If you want to be 100% sure you are getting a full HDCD decode, the best thing to do is download a program like MusicBee aby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
QuoteGordon Rekcikssa I'll Sleep When I'm Dead: The Dirty Life And Times Of Warren Zevon Crystal Zevon - published by Ecco / Harper Collins, 2007 That sounds interesting. I only started listening to Zevon a couple of years ago. I picked up Excitable Boy on LP and a budget CD set of some of his classic albums. All great stuff. I don't know too much about him, so I'd imaby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Ensnared - Dysangelium Been listening to this lately after discovering this band on a podcast. This is the first full-length album by this death metal band from Sweden, after a couple of EP releases. It takes a lot for a newer band like this to impress me, but I like what Ensnared is doing here. Their style is based more on the thrashy late 80s style of death metal rather than the 90s stylby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Butthole Surfers - Blind Eye Sees All: Live In Detroit 1985 originally released on VHS by Touch and Go, 1985 - this DVD by MVD, 2002 Nice pick. I don't know their whole catalog very well (only have a few albums) but this is a good period for them. Definitely a unique band.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Quotewhoisfrank Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile To The Surface Camp Cope plays some pop punk-tinged indie rock with female vocals (which seems to have been blowing up for the last couple of years in some DIY/indie scenes). Never heard of either band, need to check these out more fully.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Dream Death - Journey Into Mystery Discogs Page Some people have tagged this group as a thrash band, but I don't think they have anything to do with thrash metal. At the time this band was formed and hashing out their sound on demos, extreme metal was in it's relative infancy, and bands like this didn't, and still don't, fit into a narrow category. Chuck Wayne - Morning Mist LP Discogs Page This is a mellow guitar jazz album, perfect for late night or early morning listening. I'd been meaning to check out Chuck Wayne's solo work since I heard him on Tony Bennett's Cloud 7 album a couple years ago, so I picked this up.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Systematic Death - Systemania 1 + 2 CDs Discogs Page 80s hardcore from Japan, a sort of an early discography compiled across two discs. An interesting thing about this band is that they obtained semi-legendary status even though they never recorded a proper full length until they reunited in the 2000s. QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Judas Priest - Electric Eye Columbia Music Video, 2003 That looks cool. I should pick up a copy of that one. I've seen those Grey Whistle videos before, the band was onto something even at that early stage, even if they would break more ground later.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Alan Licht - Sink The Aging Process Stillbreeze, 1994 Nice pick. I'm not very familiar with Licht, need to check out his work more.
