Recently...

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground LP (MGM) 1969

^So essential and so classic. I got this from the mono box set that my wife bought me a while back and I love this so much. I don't need to say jack about this, it's already been reviewed to death.

New York Dolls ‎– New York Dolls LP (Mercury) 1973

^Glam rock classic. I wasn't familiar with this till recently, now I'm finally getting into them. Better late than never! It's pretty much just straight rock and roll really, and very simple and great music.

Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley LP (Elektra) 1994 Import Reissue

^Never thought I'd find this on wax! It wasn't cheap, at 35 bucks. But that's what typical rock reissues and even new rock records fetch nowadays so I bit. I had heard a lot these songs many times as P hooked me up with his best of comp, but I never heard them in the album format. Sounds as great as I woulda hoped it sounded, well worth the price!
Fans, If you are looking for it here's where I got mine.

Boards of Canada - High Scores EP (Skam) 1996

^Nice early EP from the wonderful childlike downtempo production gods Boards of Canada. This is so cool, and there is one straight electro track on this that I didn't expect. And look how shiny it is!!! in loveActually, I ran this through the spin cleaner cuz my copy had some kinda sticky funky smelling crystals on it and it made it sound better than ever. Now I can finally enjoy this record without all the surface noise.

DJ Roctakon ‎– Money Lotion Volume 1 (Money Studios Records) 2006

^I had a few of these volumes sold all but this one because this one is the only volume that did it right IMO. These are basically DJ Only mashups and or remixes of classic rock songs from the 80s. Great stuff. If you haven't already, TEACHERS checkit.

Right now

The Magnolia Sons . This is a local band that I caught at the Lee Fields Show a while back . These guys and girls put on a great show . Also , the guy who's singing , put on the best all 45s funk / soul dj set I've ever heard , which continued where it left off , between bands .

^^Pretty nice band there Jay. Quality retro bands have really been popping up over the last 10 years.

Today is Africa day. Travelling west to east I start off in Ghana with this dope split 12":

Oscar Sulley - Bukom Mashie/Ogyatanaa Show Band - Disco Africa

Moving on to Nigeria and a reissue of this fantastic album:

Asiko Rock Group - S/T

Crossing the border to Cameroon for a classic:

Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa

No video, y'all should know this one already...

Finally flying over to the east coast for a taste of Somalia from 1987:

Dur-Dur Band - Volume 5

This was recently pressed up on vinyl mastered from a tape that made it out of Mogadishu before the civil war, hence the sound quality.
