This morning in the ride...

Herbie Hancock - Return of the Headhunters

Not the same as their monster first incarnation, but nice and funky as you'd expect.

Myron & E - If I Gave You My Love

^Strange that this would be on Stones Throw.

^I feel exactly the same way. I like their execution but that doesn't really give me enough to judge it.
Wade has it for sale.

Recently...

...an assortment of everything (many genres) since I'm playing catchup this week...

...

(starting with some Breaks sources)

...

Various - The Thing With Two Heads Soundtrack LP (MGM) 1972

^Found this classic Blaxploitation soundtrack from a movie about a double raced double faced dude. I haven’t seen this movie, but one would think that he would get more oppression for having two heads vs one of those heads being black. But I suppose that’s the irony of the story LOL. Anyways, this is a definite break record. Several breaks reside on this LP. It includes two great tracks from the Incredible Bongo Band "Bongolia" and "Bongo Rock", plus two Ollie Nightingale cuts "Here I Am Again" and "May The Best Man Win" and two Sylver's cuts including the break classic "Fools Paradise". Really this is a solid soundtrack besides being a great sample source.

In Search Of Orchestra - Phenomena Theme 12" (AVI) 1977

^Speaking of Breaks, HOT DAMN there are some fine breaks on this. Very discoish! I bought this for my space mix sequel but it wasn’t quite spacy enough. Still it’s better than that, it’s just plain FONKY! On the flip is a nice cosmic jazz joint. I thought this was from the show “In Search Of” with Leonard Nimoy, but I’m not so sure about that now. This one came from Dusty Groove this week, and it has the same “Jazzy Joyce” written on the cover that I have been seeing on the last few great records I bought there, so there is no doubt in my mind that she sold her records to DGA. She marked the record with tape, so this must be one she juggled\mixed live!

Just check out all the breaks on this one track!

(moving on to a lil punk music…)

...

Screeching Weasel ‎– My Brain Hurts LP (Lookout! Records) 1991

^SWEET!! Found this OG Lookout! release locally for almost nothing. This one is one of those punk albums you can listen to all the way through without getting freaked out by all the angst. Man these guys are TIGHT. Their cover of “I Can See Clearly Now” is a triple time cover that’ll knock your socks off.

Pornography - 7 Minutes In Heaven 7" (Paxam) 2013 RSD

^Early never before released punk by this early Ryan Adams band Pornography. This is a great punk 7” EP, with 7 short n sweet punk tracks released courtesy of Record Store Day 2013. Leah Hennessey, the female vocalist is the perfect chick-punk singer.

...

(chilling out with a little downtempo…)

...

Mr. Scruff ‎– Mr. Scruff LP (Ninja Tune) 2005 Reissue of 1997 OG

^First Mr Scruff album on a heavy triple LP Ninja Tune repress. Not as good as the classic downtempo album “Keep It Unreal” but still prevalent in his signature chugging downtempo beats. Complete with his odd fish fetish lyrics. This is a good one for Scruff fans but Scruff newbs should start out with “Keep It Unreal”.

Fila Brazillia - Throwing Down a Shape 12" (Pork Recordings) 1998

^One of my all-time favorite downtempo artists. These guys rarely drop anything that isn’t a solid 5. Both sides of this single are dope.

Various ‎– Dub Plates From The Lamp Sampler 12" (Pork Recordings) 2000

^A cheap but solid Pork Records sampler. Nice and dubby downtempo\drum and bass electronic grooves for just a few bucks.

Soulstice - The Reason (DJ Spinna Mix) 12" (OM Records) 2001 and Soulstice - Fall Into You...Part 2 12" (OM Records 2001)

^Man I remember when I first heard Soulstice back in the early 00s. I think the first time I heard her voice was on OM’s downtempo compilation called “OM Lounge” and then later on I heard it on Mark Farina’s “Mushroom Jazz” series. From the moment I heard that voice and those beats I knew I had to get her albums. Recently I came upon these two singles. The one on the left has a fantastic DJ Spinna remix and the flipside remix is great too. Also it includes the acapellas so I’m gonna have to make use of that! The one on the right was a complete waste of money. Way too overproduced remixes that fucked with her perfect vocal chords ruined the original song. I hate it when remixes ruin original songs. Leave that shit alone if you can’t produce!

(sliding into a little house…)

...

Bob Sinclar ‎– I Feel For You 12" (Subliminal) 2000 and Bob Sinclar Featuring James "D-Train" Williams ‎– Darlin' 12" (Subliminal) 2001

^I have a smidgen of house records, not many but enough to get a mix done one of these days. As far as my wife and I are concerned this guy Bob is at the top of the house game. Very funky discoish house almost like Daft Punk in a way but more smooth. I like almost all his songs that I’ve heard. I could do without some of these remixes, but some are ayite.

Bob Sinclar ‎– Ich Rocke - Part One (Yellow Productions) 2001

^This remix is fantastic. This would make ANY ass get up off the chair and shake. Guaranteed floor filler.

User - 12 12" (User) 2001

^Heavier more progressive house. Very trippy but classy 80s styled beat. One of those cheap but dope electronic records that slipped under the radar and still is slept on 12 years later.

...

(rounding out with some feel-good reggae…)

...

The Rolands - Stormy Night 12" (Massai) 1982

^MAN oh MAN this is some quality roots reggae. Obscure and wonderful. The dub version on the flip is absolutely bangin'.

The Blues Busters ‎– Phillip & Lloyd LP (Dynamic Sounds) 1976

^Saved the best for last. I rate this as THEE GREATEST Lovers Rock styled reggae record in my collection. I rated it a solid 5/5 on discogs and even reviewed it (which I never do!) as a truly perfect reggae record. All songs, every single one of them, is a top notch cover of a classic rock song covered in laid back crooner reggae style.

Their name is what they do. Having a bad day? Put the needle on this and you’ll immediately change your mood. I think I have played this record 100 times at least and I still bust this out as the finale of my listening sessions. If there is one reggae record I could recommend to you guys this would definitely be that record, and it's not rare at all, so it should be a cheap and easy find for all to enjoy.
