^The Whatnots is my kind of sweet soul! I got their "Let Me Be that Special One" and "Instigating" on 45s. I rank them right up there with the group "the Moments".

Recently (Catching up a lil after a crazy couple of weeks)

...

Roxy Music - Country Life LP (Island Records) 1974

^Original banned cover of this supposedly last good album by seminal snob-rock gods Roxy Music. By this time Brian Eno was long gone and the other Brian, Brian Ferry, had his creative juices in full flow after the ill timed breakup. It was bound to happen, as Eno had huge plans for his solo career in full swing. This late glam\art rock album is really solid, very progressive and therefore difficult to describe. What I can say is the players are all on point as the music is basically flawless.

Various ‎- Punk And Disorderly LP (Posh Boy) 1982

^Oh look, I got another Punk compilation. Imagine that, right? As far as I'm concerned I'm still a total newb when it comes to punk music and I am THOROUGHLY hooked on it as it has been my staple genre of choice lately. So comps like this are invaluable for me to get a grasp on this broad underground. This one is full of really good mostly UK groups that I knew very little about. I know enough now to keep an eye out for some of these groups particularly the female led group "Vice Squad" and my second favorite has gotta be "The Insane."

Heliocentrics - 13 Degrees of Reality LP (Now-Again Records) 2013

^NICE! I have loved these guys for years! I watched them split up and do their own solo thing for a while and have waited patiently for them to drop their second official album for a long time. This one does not disappoint, it's along the same theme they have been successful with in the past. File Under Spacefunkjazz. Like a funky residual extension of Sun Ra's soul from the days after he went back to the stars. From spacy cowboy funk to far Eastern vs piano jazz split apart nicely by old news reels and other oddity samples. Highly recommended.

Flaming Lips - Embryonic LP (Warner Brothers) 2009

^Another big shocker, another Flaming Lips record copped! This one is right before their remake of "Dark Side Of The Moon" and by this time they were fully versed in the experimental, way-to-late for psychadelic rock movement. Great album, very moody and abstract in places, but cohesive.

Cannibal Corpse - Vile LP (Metal Blade Records) 2013 (Picture Disc) (OG released in 1996)

^Top selling US Death Metal artists Cannible Corps reissued this a bit too late for RSD 2013 so this straggled in this month as an unofficial 2013 RSD release. One of their best, heaviest, darkest, most disgusting covered albums finally getting a nice remaster in the same caliber of the RSD masters. You gotta be alone in your house and at least 4 beers in before you bust this out because it's gonna rattle the house and your cohabitants might think you worship Satan, but that's all worth it when you get weeks of stress buildup out of your system.

Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun LP (PIAS) 2013 (OG released in 1999)

^Unnumbered reissue of the official 2013 RSD issue that sold out in day one. Like a lot of RSDs, the numbers basically mean nothing because eventually they are going to press them unnumbered making the actual numbers released a big question mark. But hey, who cares! Good music like this pressed on heavy wax is what it's all about. This never even got issued on record until this year so either way I was gonna get it. File under Icelandic mood rock. Very rich warm analog sounds, vocals I can't comprehend that transcend language altogether and feel good vibes throughout. You really don't have to know what they are singing about for this to get the "It's really good" stamp from me and a lot of others hyping up this release.

Lil Dap - Real MCs/Guru Cash Flow 7" (Raised Fist Propaganda) 2013 and Oxygen - The Process / Guillotine 16's ‎7" (Boro Records) 2013 and The Nervous Track/Mind Fluid 2x7" (Kay Dee Records) 2012

^A handful of sevens arrived 2 days ago, the two Hip Hop ones are ayite, especially the "Guru Cash Flow" track by Lil Dap, but neither of those sevens compare to the warm rich funky house of Masters at Work's "Nuyorican Soul" on Kenny Dope's Kay-Dee label. I don't have very much house music on wax, and with the exception of this record, none on 45. I don't go looking for it either but the reviews were absolutely right in drawing me in. Really great vibes on that worthy of a laid back electronic mix that might happen some day.

Pretty nice, enjoying it.

I forgot about this record until recently, a couple of heaters on it that I've been spinning a lot the last couple days. The accompanying 45 has one of the better tracks as well.

It's interesting thinking about how often we play a single record, I just pulled something out that I haven't listened to in at least a year and was blown away. I'm sure there are certain records in my crates that have been untouched for too long. Anyways, that record looks nice.
