[Right now]

This is one of those records that just makes me happy. I remember having a conversation with the legendary record pusher at Funk-O-Mart here in Philly (he supplied breaks to dudes like Schooly D) about this record and he was trying to sell me a CD-R copy of it. While getting legitimately dirty in his huge space full of records, which unfortunately is no longer there, our conversation shifted from Cal Tjader to Eddie Palmieri. I told him I'd been looking for this record for a while and he went running to throw his CD dub on (and told me it wasn't worth waiting out on the vinyl). Truthfully it's not that hard a record to find but definitely is a digger's record of sorts.

In any case, they reissued it a while ago but I told myself I wasn't gonna order it online if I could help it. Last year while in Paris I hit Superfly Records (with an ever-understanding girlfriend) and found this record right next to the reissue. It was a classic record buying dilemma as the reissue was (probably sealed and) much cheaper while the OG was a little battered on the outside but with VG+ish vinyl. Needless to say I left with the OG, flimsy-ass plastic and all. I should reup on the reissue to listen more often but this is one of those little wins in my book.

That reminded me to bust this out last night...

Harlem River Drive ‎– Harlem River Drive LP (Roulette Records) 1971

^1971 was a very good year for funk\soul music.
