It's interesting thinking about how often we play a single record, I just pulled something out that I haven't listened to in at least a year and was blown away. I'm sure there are certain records in my crates that have been untouched for too long.

^Yeah, I'm guilty of that. I used to have a "new pile" that I kept on my barrel chair, that way I wouldn't forget the stuff I recently bought and can have a few repeat listens before filing it away. But ever since I revamped my studio and upped storage I'm way more anal and I put everything away (alphabetical by genre) right after the first listen. It's less cluttered that way but I find I'm snoozing on a lot of my own shit that's pretty worthy of well more than a few listens.

Last night was a QOTSA night...

Queens of the Stoned Age - ...Like Clockwork, Feel Good Hit of the Summer Pic Disc, and X LPs

^Last night, the arrival of the new album meant it was gonna be a "Queens" night. It sounds nice and loud but quite frankly it's not as good as their earlier albums. They are pretty chilled out on this comparatively. I think I'll listen a few more times before writing it off, but upon first listen I thought it was a pretty big excursion from the sound I liked them for in the first place.

Queens of the Stoned Age - X Import LP (Interscope) 2000

^Great album, but this is a cheap and hastily pressed Import Repress. Everything about this screams bootleg to me, including the faded print, the uber-cheap paper sleeves that destroyed the vinyl before I even broke the seal, and on top of everything, if you look at the label on the record it actually says "Compact Disc" on it. This record is quiet even though it was pressed on heavy wax. It doesn't sound like it was mastered from the CD, it's just quiet and I prefer my vinyl rock collection to be LOUD! I was assured this isn't a bootleg but just a cheap repress but I'm not convinced after seeing "Compact Disc" on the label.

Queens of the Stoned Age - Feel Good Hit of the Summer Picture Disc EP (Interscope) 2010 RSD

^The one thing you can always count on about RSD pressings is that they maticulously master their records with care and precision with emphasis on having clear, loud pressings. Unlike the "X" import this is loud AND heavy! Not to mention it looks pretty sweet. For all the people that swear if it's a picture disc, it's gonna sound like shit, this is proof positive that Picture Discs can in fact sound just as good as plain old black vinyl when done by record companies that know how to do their jobs properly.

^^^ yeah, one of the rekkid stores i was diggin' in over the past weekend was playing it (promo copy) and i was there for most of the album-play...wasn't really feeling - QOTSA's gone too soft (in their sound). None of their albums can top their debut.....

peace.

^Agreed, their first album was their best. Their next few were really good and, you're right, this newest one was pretty soft. It has a couple good songs, but it's just not as hard hitting as I hoped it would be.
