Instigators - Nobody Listens Anymore

Think I may have posted this before, but oh well...

The Instigators were an 80s political punk group from the UK. This album originally came out on Bluurg, which was the Subhumans' label. Compared to where the Subhumans were at this point, Instigators are a lot more straight for the throat. This copy is a recent 30th Anniversary reissue on Skuld/Ruinnation Records, which is fairly well done and can be at a very reasonable price. I like that the album was pressed on good quality vinyl and that a bit of effort was put into the inserts. After this album the band would make more records, but the lineup shifted and I don't like that later material nearly as much as this album. Skuld/Ruinnation has also done a reissue of the bands first 7'' expanded into an LP with bonus demo and comp. tracks.

Old And New Dreams - S/T

Hi Cratedigging.co - Lionsmouth mentioned this board to me, so I thought I'd drop by and post something I like. I'm whyaduck on reddit, but I managed to mangle my username when I signed up here eye rolling smiley

Old And New Dreams is one of 2 records with the same name and same personnel - this is the 1976 release on Black Saint. The other self titled release is a later date on ECM - another disc worth listening to. All the personnel were sidemen for Ornette Coleman - so if you don't like your jazz free, you probably won't enjoy this much. Although, as free jazz goes, I think it's more approachable than most of it. Ed Blackwell's drumming really stands out for me, but all the players contribute some excellent solos - I was just listening to Charlie Haden's bass solo on Augmented and it was sweet - followed by a surprisingly mellow drum solo by Blackwell.

@Whyaduck, welcome!

That record looks interesting. I always look for 70s jazz when I'm browsing used vinyl. That stuff is WAY undervalued among record collectors and jazz nerds IMHO and there are a lot of gems out there that can still be picked up dirt cheap or at least at reasonable prices. I will definitely keep an eye out for that one. There is a store near me that seems to specialize in 70s jazz, and I picked up a lot of radio promo editions of albums that looked like they had never been played there. I'm going to miss that store when I leave.
