Last night...

Dexter Gordon - Our Man In Paris LP (Blue Note Records) 1966

^My copy of this is a nice early reissue of this classic Hard Bop album from Dexter Gordon. One of the things I like about this particular album is how clean and simple it is. Wholly non-pretentious Jazz. Perfect for background and foreground music. Isn't trying to impress but remains exemplary. Doesn't sound like he's working hard yet clearly years of hard work brought him here. In a way he sounds like he's in a very peaceful place with nothing to prove about being overshadowed by other bigger Blue Note stars of this time period.

^That Dexter album is a classic. Along with "GO", probably his most well known album on Blue Note, though he recorded a bunch of good ones. Actually he was still recording strong albums in the 70s also, some of which you can pick up very cheaply. I recommend "Stable Mable" and "Sophisticated Giant" if you run into those while digging.

Joe Bonner - The Lifesaver LP

Solo piano jazz from the mid-70s, never reissued or released on CD either. Another underrated album on the Muse label, well worth picking up.

There's so much good jazz out there that never made it onto CD. This is a perfect example. Such a great record.

Yeah, one of the main reasons I still buy records. There is so much stuff out there that never made it to CD or just didn't get put on the format the right way.
