Shoji Yokouchi Trio + Yuri Tashiro - Greensleeves LP

Japanese guitar jazz from the 70s with a highly polished feel. If you like CTI stuff you'll be at home with this though this avoids a lot of the syrupy arrangements on some of the not so hot CTI albums. It's almost too pristine in a way, but repeated listens show this has soul too. I should also mention this reissue on Impex Records is one of the very best sounding records I've heard, ever - both in terms of how well the music was recorded and how devoid of surface noise and flaws the vinyl is.

^Very cool. So much stuff in Japan to check for this is certainly one of them.

Impex reissued some other Japanese jazz albums I would love to get, but they are very expensive 2xLP sets. They compiled three of them in this box set:

The Jazz Messengers - Hard Bop LP

Early work from Art Blakey's group, before he took top billing. While it doesn't have sparks flying like some of his records from a bit later, this is a very good album well worth getting if you like late 50s hard bop. My copy is a stellar audiophile reissue from the Impex label. They did a fantastic job with this one.

I love Blakey so much. I know very little other than his heavy hitters but they made quite the impression on me.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Most of my Blakey collection is from his 60s Blue Note era. His earlier recordings are definitely underrated IMHO. I haven't heard anything from the 70s but there are some records of his from that era that are killer according to some jazzheads.
