Latest album from this UK contemporary jazz artist. Unlike his last one, which had a lot of 60s flavor, this one is more of a nod to the adventurous jazz of the early 70s. It's not free jazz or anything harsh, but the sound is expanded considerably over his last one. More atmosphere, some funk, even some influences from African and Arab music. It works well but it's subtle at times and deserves a few listens to sink in. If you're in the U.S. you can probably get this from Dusty Groove. If in Europe, try the label directly or maybe Juno Records.

There is so much good jazz coming out these days, I think eventually this era may be remembered as a new "Golden Age" for the genre. This album right here is a perfect example of why.

The UK scene seems especially vibrant. If I had more time and money I'd follow it more closely. I'm sure there is so much good stuff I'm missing out on. I try to grab the higher profile albums when I can. One of shops in my area specializes in jazz and r&b and is always trying to draw more attention to contemporary jazz. That's how I find out about a lot of newer jazz. That and the occasional YouTube vlog, which is how I found out about Chip Wickham.

One of the great jazz albums of the 60s that probably doesn't need any introduction. This MoFi pressing is cut at 45 RPM and spread across 2 LPs. Absolutely glorious sound.

I have this one on CD and should probably listen to it more often. It's a good one. I'm sure that MOFI sounds awesome. I still need to try one of these MOFI Miles Davis reissues.

Alice Coltrane's first solo album after the death of John. This is a beautiful affair, with long Eastern-tinged modal pieces that she intended as a tribute to her late husband. She is joined by Pharaoh Sanders, Jimmy Garrison, Rashied Ali, and Ben Riley.

This repress by Superior Viaduct is very well done. Nice rich sound, and dead quiet in all the right ways.
