Toxic Reasons - Independence LP

Early 80s punk/hc from Ohio. These guys actually remind of D.O.A. a bit rather than the faster stuff a lot of American hardcore bands were doing at the time. Some of the songs are re-recorded from early 7''s I believe. A good LP, especially if you like a more midtempo take on old hardcore. Supposedly their second LP is even better than this, but I've never heard it. This copy is an RSD reissue on Beer City. Seems like they put some effort into it, even if it was pressed at Rainbo, which is hardly my favorite plant. My personal copy seems fine.

Axegrinder - Rise of the Serpent Men CD

Heavy late 80s crust, very reminiscent of Amebix. This is a bit more polished at times and an interesting record. I like it more now than when I first heard it a few years back. I believe Peaceville reissued it on vinyl at some point as well, not sure how hard that is to come by these days.

Generation X - Self-Titled LP

I wrote off this band for many years and didn't attempt to listen to them until maybe 5 years ago. Well, this album is great. Regardless of what you think of Billy Idol's later solo career, this mandatory punk rock. Poppy for sure, but damn good. This LP is a U.S. pressing with a different tracklisting than the UK version. The album opens with a cover of Lennon's Gimme Some Truth. This studio version of the song is unavailable on any of the current Gen X cd reissues.

Olivelawn - Sophomore Jinx LP

Killer punked up garage rock from the early 90s. The guitarist in this band, "O" was a famous skateboard and music photographer that later ended up forming the group Fluf, which I got to see perform a few years after this album came out. This is a bit different than Fluf (understatement) and a lot more aggressive.

^So I got an Olive Lawn 7" that I'm not a big fan of called 4 is Greater Than 2.

Anywayz, I don't know if you remember my Tribute to Punk 7" records I did a while back, but that band was my only "O" and I just couldn't review a record I disliked so much, so I actually had to go scouring for another punk band that starts with "O". How nerdy is that shit? nerd

Anywho, sounds like that album is much better.
