Various Artists - Yugoslavian Space Program
Discom, 2016

This record is a compilation of electronic music from what was once the nation of Yugoslavia. If you dig spaced out Krautrock, this album will be right up your alley. There are two tracks each from four different artists.

First up is Miha Kralj, a pioneer of synth music in Eastern Europe. He's still active in music today, though not recording much that I can find, but performing quite a bit in Slovenia. Below is a video for "Robot", the first track from this album, recorded somewhere around 1981-82, and owes a huge debt to Kraftwerk.

Up next is Oskarova Fobija. This is more recent, recorded in 2004 I believe.

The track below is by Beograd. I think this was recorded sometime around 1982-83, but not released until 2015.

The album closes with Digitron, again exhibiting a heavy Kraftwerk influence. This was recorded in 1997 and was on their sole album "D-Tune".

Those tracks all sound pretty good. Definitely some Kraftwerk vibes going on. The second group made me think of Depeche Mode. Seems like a cool comp.

I couldn't quite put my finger on who they reminded me of, but Depeche Mode is a good comparison. Honestly, the whole thing is derivative of what was going on in Germany a few years earlier, but it's really interesting to see what was happening in Eastern Europe at the time, and how similar it was to western synth-pop.
