Primordial Massacre - The Law Of Club And Mace
not on label - self released, 2017

Single-sided cassette demo with three tracks of ultra lo-fi black/death metal. If you're a fan of the old 2nd wave black metal out of Norway, then this will likely appeal to you. Buzzing guitars, guttural vocals, and thrashing drums without even a single hint of production or attempt at mastering in sight.

You're not kidding when you said that was raw. It actually reminds me a bit of pre-2nd wave bands like Von, Poison (Germany), and Sarcafago.

@ Gordon Rekcikssa , that cassette reminds me of the demos we used to make in my friend Byrd's garage back in high school with a portable cassette player . Except we weren't that scary !!grinning smiley

Mort Aux Gueux - Beuverie, Musique du Diable et Misère Crasse
Corde Raide Productins, 2017

Some pretty decent lo-fi black metal from Quebec. Nothing truly groundbreaking, but if you're a fan of pure old-school black from the French LLN scene you'll find a lot to like here.

Darkthrone - Arctic Thunder
Peaceville, 2016
- pictured below RSD 2017 Picture Disc pressing

Record Store Day pressing of Darkthrone's last album that I picked up this weekend.

The quality of picture discs still doesn't match a regular LP, but I have to say they've gotten substantially better since I bought Iron Maiden's Piece Of Mind back in the mid 80s to get their version of Jethro Tull's Cross-Eyed Mary. That disc sounded terrible, but I've picked up a few over the past couple of years, and they actually don't sound as bad as I expected them to. They're still mostly for display, but I figured that since they actually have music, I would try playing them. This one sounds pretty good. The guitars are crisp and although the overall tone is somewhat thin, it is a Darkthrone album, and it doesn't sound substantially different from the CD or standard LP pressings I have until I really crank the volume.
