DJ Honda - HII LP (Relativity) 1998

^Another staple Honda album with every MC in the book rhyming over his top notch production. This and H1 remind me of a compilation of a Hip Hop DJ's twelve inch singles, versus an actual album, since almost all songs on them are uniquely MCed and are worthy of being dropped as 12" single releases.

Dope album. I used to bumo that joint everyday, all day, when it dropped. I need to break it back out and listen to it, since it's been a while.

I remember when Honda opened up a (little) store in NYC..I used to go by there all the time.

peace.

This kend was a Beat Junkies weekend...

J-Rocc - Tour Mix CD (mixtape) 2012 and DJ Babu & DJ Shortkut ‎– The Beat Junkie 45 Series Volume 2 7" (Sound Junkies Recording) 2012

^Direct from the Beatjunkies.com store. Just trying to get caught up on my Beat Junkies CD mixtapes and 7"s and I got blown away by the dopeness factor. That mix is money. J-Rocc has taken his game to a new level again in the art of DJing. Mixed with every genre in the book but blended so well it's as cohesive as a smoothy. Starts out with rare reggae, then some dub, then Hip Hop, then funk, then jazz back to reggae, and so on. No tracklisting, but I want one because I gotta know some of those joints.

When I dropped the needle on the A side of that 7", I was mildly impressed but when I heard the B, I was jamming. The track uses the Sesame St sample that goes "1, 2, 3 4 5 six 7 8 9 10 eleven twelve!" and while I've heard it used before, never has it sounded so dope. Shortkut musta juggled it and then layered it in beats, because it's pure class right there. HIGHLY recommended since it's one of the dopest HH instrumentals I've heard in 2012.. Yeah, I'm partial to that sample, but even so, what he does with it is undeniably dope. This 7" is much better than volume one of this Beat Junkies 7" series, so Beat Junkie fans get this one if you can find it.

Muro and J-rocc ‎– J.a.m. 7" (Digot) 2012

^Also landed this weekend direct from the Beat Junkies... a Japan only 7" tour release of Muro and J-rocc edits. This one is different... dope, but different. I don't know if I can call it Hip Hop or electro or what, it's some next level production though that's for sure. J-Rocc musta been on some serious sheet when he produced this because it's almost undefinable. It's a really limited, really cool, and definitely uniquely Japanese styled pressed 7", so I feel lucky to own this. Even if you ain't a fan buy this if you can because it'll be worth a lot of money some day to someone.

J Dilla ‎- Jay Dee's Revenge / Birthright 10" (Ruff Draft Records) 2012 and The Purist and Roc Marciano - By The Book 7" (Ill Adrenaline Records) 2012

^Props to Uptown for putting the track "Jay Dee's Revenge" feat. Danny Brown on his last HH mixtape, I loved it so much I bought the 10" just to get that song. I don't normally look for J.Dilla records any more since they are so many posthumous Dilla releases all the time, but this one beat is so grimy and dirty and different from Dilla's typical boom bap sound I had to get it. Danny Brown's no slouch on the rhymes either, but the beat is where it's at.

That Purist\Roc 7 inch is pretty dope too, not his best track, but still good. Frankly 11 bones (before shipping) for this 7" is way too much money. Apparently it's priced based upon the hype surrounding Roc. It's a short song, and only the instrumental is on the flip, so I think it shoulda been priced accordingly. Really, I want the whole new album by Roc Marciano instead of this on wax, but it's always been out of print every time I check for it. Fat Beats will restock it eventually, this will have to make due in the meantime.

DJ JS-1 - No Sell Out 2 LP (Fat Beats) 2009

I already had this CD "mixtape" for a while and it struck a chord with me. I thought it was so strong in terms of guest MCs and beats that I had to get it on LP as well. Mainly, I wanted this for the last track of the album featuring Kool Keith, MAN that beat is sweet and KK sounds right at home on that. But besides that one track, every Tom, Dick and Harry in Hip Hop collabs on this, chances are you'll find more than a few mixtape worthy tracks somewhere on this LP.

Finsta Bundy - Sunnyside 12" (Big Willie Records) 1994

FINALLY I got the first and best single dropped by this group. I had this in my hands as part of a "borrow pile" from Metrowax Records years ago. Back then I didn't have the money to buy it so I missed out on the sale. But it stayed on my to-get list long enough, I finally copped this from an overseas Discogs seller. It was worth the cash and worth the wait. Both the A side and the B side are straight up top notch underground Hip Hop. I don't need to say much more then that, it's just really really dope.
