Public Enemy - Do You Wanna Go Our Way 12" (Atomic Pop) 1999

^Pretty cool later period PE track. Really it's not the best ever, but I gotta get all their 12s so in the buy pile it goes.

..actually that's one of my favorite, late-90's PE joints....i love the rock/boom-bap'ish vibe.

Self Scientific - Three Kings 12" (S.O.L. Music Works) 2000

^One of the best twelves in the borrow stack and soon to be one of the best of the Joe buy pile.

if you like that single, then you need to get the album it comes off of....Self Scientific's debut joint, the Self science. very dope (early) production by DJ Khalil....outstanding rappin' by Chase Infinite.

The UN - D.O.A. 12" (Fourfivesix Entertainment) 2004

^Pre solo career Rocc Marciano for those who don't know, really really dope as expected and super cheap on discogs at a mere 2$! Absolutely a Joe buy pile record even if it wasn't that cheap it's well worth it.

Not the best single of that UN album, IMO.

^Yeah I liked that PE a lot too, not the best one but it's pretty sweet.
I gotta get all those UNs, I was way too late on getting into them. That album is pretty expensive nowadays.

Right now I'm listening to this super dope strictly Texas underground Hip Hop mix by this DWG member Chris Reisman.

^This is fantastic. Download it.

Ok so Yeezus...

Sonically, it is interesting to say the least. Its basically an explosion of sounds none of which are soulful or melodious. It sounds like an on going throwback video game. That's fine because he's been experimenting with this sound ever since "stronger". It's synth-heavy,electronic it's cacophonous and while I appreciate that aspect I do like for it to have a point i.e. Public Enemy. For me the dark, mechanized sound actually began to grow on me. I do like that he took the time to experiment and attempt to transcend the confines of being a "rapper" or just a " hip-hop artist". He's definitely trying to establish some sort of artistic legacy, which might be taken seriously, even despite his hubris...Is it his best work? Lyrically no..It is my belief he bested Jay lyrically in Watch The Throne..because Jay wants to see him win and besides Jay's catalogue cannot be denied. Kanye still has something to prove,IMO and with the exception of a few joints ...lyrically he was playin' lol Overall, I enjoyed it...but it's acquired taste.

^^^interesting feedback, Hiphopchiq - thanks for the review.

I sampled through the album...not really listening to entire songs, but snippets - wasn't really feeling it. I think i'm still looking for that old, Late Registration/college dropout, Kanye. Maybe we'll never see/hear that Kanye again...?

..but who knows, maybe one of these days, i'll listen to it (entirely) to get a better sound capture of it - maybe I'll feel different about it afterwards.

peace.
