Brian Eno - Discreet Music LP (Editions EG) 1975

^The king of ambient's first ambient album, he really hasn't found his footing on this but the markings of what's to come are there. Here he's in full experimentation mode trying to learn the ins and outs of the analog hardware at his disposal. It's pretty sweet that he tried to explain his techniques of production in the form of a flowchart on the back of the album. I spotted a few "Telefon Tel Aviv" samples on this much to my surprise. Not recommended for Brian Eno newbies, start with "Another Green World" if you are going to start from scratch, as an Eno completionist, I had to get it.

Various - You Weren't There: A History Of Chicago Punk 1977-1984 LP (Factory 25) 2009

^That's right, another punk compilation. Rock On Believe it or not, I am officially hooked on this "new to me" genre and the comps I have been buying lately are all showing me the ropes on what artists to get and which to avoid. This one is local Chitown punk groups, very raw sounding but hardcore niceness all the way. I am itching to make another punk mix using some of these comps and all the new punk 45s I been scooping up lately. Honestly, I don't know why I didn't bother getting into punk earlier, it seemed so stupid when I was a young punk and now that I'm older it seems like an easily accessible no-brainer. I guess I'm having a midlife crisis or something, or at least that's what my wife thinks when she is walking by my studio door and hears all this angst coming out my speakers.

Arctic Monkeys - Favorite Worst Nightmare LP (Domino) 2007 (2013 US repressing)

^Speaking of stuff I slept on, other then a few stray RSD singles, I didn't have anything by this Brit Band. One of those bands where their name is kinda lame but the music is pretty friggen sweet rock n roll. This album is really dope, it's easily among my favorite indie rock albums on my shelves. If you wanna spice up your modern rock collection look for this nice repress that just got dropped.

Nirvana - Nevermind: The Singles 4X10" Box (DGC) RSD 2011

Very loud high quality sound on these staple Nirvana singles. Unlike the Record Store Day LP box this is more whittled down to the meat and potatoes, with a few added live tracks for prosperity. It cost too much, but this was on my want list for years so I finally bit on the line. My next Nirvana want is the LP of In Utero, their last album. It's out there but it's not cheap either, this band is in high demand.

^^ did you see that internal memo from a record exec. regarding the reissuing of Nirvana records? Will have to dig that up for you, basically all about getting people to buy the same record they bought 20 years ago.

((giggle))

I did not get that memo, did you put it on my desk?
Either way, the exec was right, I fell for it 20 years later.
