Magazine - Real Life LP (Virgin) 1978



^Ever find out about an artist the backwards way? I should have known about Magazine first, but as a huge Barry Adamson fan, this was just one of my Barry Adamson unfulfilled completionism waiting to happen. Barry Adamson is the bassist on this but he was just a kid back in 1978. He didn't grow into the arranger he is today yet, he was just a punk bassist on this English post punk band that I am finally awakened to.

I've been trying to get a little deeper into post punk lately so this dot connector was a win-win situation for me. I got another Adamson record and learned about a band I need more of.

I've never really listened to Adamson's solo stuff, but that Magazine record is a huge favorite of mine, and my favorite from the band. Their second and third albums are also great. Mine are all CDs though, no vinyl. I passed up a U.S. LP copy of the second one at local store recently...too many scratches and they wanted too much for it.

^I hear you. Sometimes you gotta say pass when you know it's not that hard to find. Although, a lot of people must rank that one pretty highly too because it's gone way up in price over the past few years.

Good info on the other albums Magazine albums.

Regarding Adamson, it's nothing like Magazine, more cinematic. I have all his albums. like I said, I went at Magazine the opposite way. Starting from one artist down to his beginnings and a completely different entity I am discovering.

It's pretty cool to make those kind of connections.

I found out about Magazine through Devoto's association with the Buzzcocks. You probably know this already but he was their original singer and recorded an EP and an unreleased demo LP with the band before they really took off.

What sucks is that Magazine on vinyl isn't that easy to find in my area. When I do see it, it's overpriced. I'm not paying for a scratched up record even if it is hard to find.
