Big Boys - No Matter How Long The Line Is At The Cafeteria

I discovered these guys earlier this week. They were a pretty influential punk band in the early '80s Austin scene. They're similar to the Minutemen in that they meld other genres into punk, particularly funk.

Big Crux - Ponchito LP

Another recent find, Big Crux were a punk band from Seattle that were heavily influenced by bands like Big Boys and the Minutemen.

As a huge Minutemen fan, I was really pleased to find these two bands this week. It's a shame Big Crux called it quits two years ago. I would have loved to catch a live show from them.

I love that Big Boys album. Knew nothing of them before LM got me into them. Very diverse sounding group, not nailed down to one style.

Big Boys were an awesome band. One of the true greats to come out of the Texas punk scene in the 80s. I listened to that Big Crux album and really dig their sound. I just might have to pick that one up soon.

Systematic Death - Systemania 1 + 2 CDs

Discogs Page

80s hardcore from Japan, a sort of an early discography compiled across two discs. An interesting thing about this band is that they obtained semi-legendary status even though they never recorded a proper full length until they reunited in the 2000s. These discs compile tracks from '83-'88 that were originally on various EPs, flexi discs, comps., and tape releases. It's all pretty great too, though musically they aren't that different from what was going on in hardcore from other places at the time. Just no frills, fast, and aggressive.
