Japanese grindcore with hilariously mangled English for lyrics. The song below is titled "Fuck Hip Raper". I think they intended it to be about hip-hop, not rape, but I can't be sure.

I've seen this band's name float around punk and crust distros for years (didn't they do a lot of split releases?) but never heard them until now. Had no idea they were grind. Was thinking they were sludge or something. Not bad, but I am very picky about those types of low/guttural vocals and the guy here is just borderline for me. He doesn't sound quite as bad some some mike cuppers/pitchshifted types you hear in grind a lot nowadays. What would you say is this band's best album?

Ridiculous lyrics...Japan has a lot of great bands that do that. I think they'd be better off just sticking to Japanese than trying to combine English and Japanese like so many bands do.

Zoviet France - Shouting at the Ground




I'm not going to even attempt to describe this stuff. This was ZF's 10th album from 1988. If you're not familiar with this group and like experimental soundscapes, post-industrial clang and drone, etc. you should get familiar with them. Even though they've reached legendary status at this point, most of their catalog is OOP. I'm not sure why this is, but I think it has to do with a dispute or something between the ex-members. There were new ZF releases as recently as two years ago, but I think those are basically Ben Ponton solo releases at this point.

They did at least 3 or 4 splits that I know of. One that came out about 10 years ago or so with Misery Index is probably the best of them. Of the three full lengths I have, Dance Hall Grind is the one I listen to most often, though the one I posted above is not too bad. That one song I put up the video for just kills me. I would think that bands with vocals like this would just stick to their native language, too. I mean what difference does it really make. If there wasn't a lyric sheet, I would just make up my own anyway.
