Lately I've had this on repeat...

Go Go Penguin - Mad Made Object 2LP (Blue Note Records) 2016

^This trio is spinning heads right now. Not since Medeski Martin and Wood has such an interesting group of primary threes graced the newest roster of Blue Note Records.

I feel like my reviewing of this album will not do it justice. Blue Note picked these guys up, so do I really need to add to that to impress upon you how good they are? Every single song on this 2LP album is worthy of your ears.

Found this interesting official live clip worth checking. Not the entire album above but it clearly shows how much these guys move their listeners.

@ Jaybrown, you really gotta get that album, it's something special and I know you'd love it. "Real" music.

You got me into a few modern jazz records, now it's my turn to return the favor. smileys with beer

Got some nice Jazz freebies lately from a parent of a friend of my wife's who said fuck it to all her vinyl and dumped it on me. I got rid of the garbage and kept the goodies...

Max Roach - Deeds Not Words

This original mono pressing on Riverside fetches some dough and is fairly hard to find.

Buddy Rich - Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (Live at Caesars Palace)

^Spotted some samples on this from various Hip Hop songs, really funky big band!

Sonny Rollins with the Modern Jazz Quartet

^Laid back vibes on this, I love this old xylophone jazz styling.

Lester Young and Chu Berry

^Early hard bop here, really nice.

A few nice Dave Brubeck oldies...

I got a few other Brubeck oldies as well, sent them thru the Spin Clean and now I'm just waiting to play them after work tonight. thumbs up

Good records are good, but good free records are even better than good.

^ Very nice. Free is definitely great but it looks like you have some nice picks there. I have a more recent pressing of that Max Roach album, that one is great. Not familiar with those specific Brubeck records but anything by him from the 50s or 60s is at least worth a shot. I've seen that Sonny with MJQ LP a few times while digging but always in trashed condition.
