Quincy Jones - The Great Wide World of Quincy Jones LP

My first Quincy Jones album. This one is from 1959. Nothing rare or especially valuable, but I was psyched to find this because I don't typically see records this old in great condition like this. It's also a white label promo in mono, which is kind of cool. At any rate, this is basically big band jazz, but there is enough bebop in here to keep things interesting for me. Also worth noting are that none of the tracks are Quincy originals. Apparently his main role on this was conducting and leading the band.

^ Very cool. I got nothing but respect for Quincy Jones's works, both older and newer.

McCoy Tyner - Enlightenment

Pulled this one out a few days ago after not listening to it for several years, and I had forgotten what an amazing performance this was. Tyner's piano is great as usual, but the rest of the quartet is just as good here. This just might be the best I've ever hear Alphonse Mouzon play on drums. Add in Azar Lawrence on fire with the sax and some tight bass playing from Joony Booth and you've got a recipe for a great show.

^That sounds great. Definitely need to get some more Tyner in my collection. I think I only have 2 or 3 albums. Nice that Azar is on there. I'm a big fan of his second album.

Azar was one of my main inspirations when I first started playing sax back around '79. That cat has an amazing sense of tone and knows exactly what notes to play and, more importantly, what notes not to play.
