The Thing From the Crypt - Compilation LP

Label Copy

Dark Entries is proud to present “The Thing From The Crypt,” a 16-track compilation of UK DIY/Synth/New Wave/Post-Punk originally released in 1981. Showcasing the thriving post punk sound of Watford, a town in Hertfordshire, England, located 20 minutes northwest of central London. “‘The Thing From The Crypt’ neither attempts to sell a ‘Wotford sound’ nor claims to be a comprehensive guide to the area’s best beat bands. Like all good compilations, its essence is variety: some tracks will make you come whilst other will make you vomit.” – original liner notes by Robert Dellar

So this is an interesting post-punk-ish comp that I grabbed because one of the bands on it is Sad Lovers and Giants, which I've posted about here before. I had never heard any of the other bands before, but this is an enjoyable comp. if you like the more raw, DIY-ish side of this kind of music.

Scars - Author! Author! LP

Scottish post-punk band from late 70s/early 80s, and this is their only proper LP. This is a favorite of mine. Even though it has never been reissued (outside of a limited CD the band did around ten years ago) the album is not rare per se and remains fairly affordable on the used market. What makes the band stand out for me is their ability to go from menacing, dark sounding tracks to lighter, more melodic material. On the whole the band were pretty bleak but had a certain energy and drive to them sometimes missing from their contemporaries.

Last night...

Various ‎– Razormaid Chapter Eight: Special Delivery 2LP (Razormaid Records) 1985

^A very cool 80s record landed last night. I'd file this under synth pop more than anything but there's elements of Jap-pop, post punk and new wave in this 2LP mix friendly set. To say this is very cool isn't doing it justice. This is easily one of the coolest if not the coolest synth pop record I own.

I wish I would have had this when I mixed Throwback Heat because it would have mixed in perfectly in the end.

Damn man! I just checked out Serious Japan that's on there. Excellent stuff! I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for that one!

Awesome, there's some heat on it for sure, I think you'll dig it.
