Lester Young - The Aladdin Sessions 2xLP



Listening to this recently. Don't know much about Young, other than he's a big name from an era when jazz was going through a transition from big band and swing to bebop type stuff. This is one of those 70s Blue Note reissues of older session comps, most of which can be picked up pretty cheaply. I think I got this one for $5 or $6. At these prices I think they're worth taking a risk if you're unfamiliar with the artist.

Joe Henderson - Black is the Color LP



1972 album from Henderson. I have a couple other 70s albums from him and these are all quite good. This one is pretty interesting. On the back there is a note about not being satisfied with the original session recordings, so the band decided to go back in the studio and do some overdubs on the tracks. Side 1 starts off kinda funky then builds in energy. Midway through the second side it gets pretty noisy and heads toward avant/free jazz.

Great early 80s expanded reissue of this 1962 album. Lots of great players on this and this particular pressing is affordable and sounds great.
