Wow , some great posts lately !!
Last night I bumped an album from this year , but with a back in the day sound .

Florian Pellissier Quartet - Cap De Bonne Esperance 2lp . Beautiful modern jazz with a 60s / 70s spiritual sound . I typically try to find a little funk in my jazz albums , but this couldn't be any further from that with the exception of one track . Mostly laid back instrumentation with one vocal track . Definitely a great album to kick back and chill out too!!

Nice. If the track with the funk feel you're talking about is "The Hipster", the piano's bass line echos Brubeck's left hand in "Take Five" - kind of ironic since "Time Out" is decidedly un-funky (maybe "Pick Up Sticks" is an exception). "The Hipster"s 12/8 time signature isn't quite as exotic as 9/8 or 5/4, but it still feels like a bit of an homage to me. Good stuff - old school crooning is always welcome, too.

I'm liking those tracks too. Added to the wantlist.

Glad you guys like this album . It's definitely worth copping . Admittedly , it was the cover art that drew me in , but the content is amazing .
@ Whyaduck , this is the funky track I was referring to ..

although it's not super funky , there is a touch of funky drumming in there .

Tina Brooks - Complete Blue Note Records of the Tina Brooks Quintets 4xLP Boxset

This is one of those fancy Mosaic Records boxsets that are always limited and go out of print. This one is from the early 80s and features landmark recordings by Tina Brooks, a tenor sax player that had a troubled life faded away from view way too early (he didn't record after '61) and then died fairly young a bit later. If you're into jazz, this isn't some kind of avant, groundbreaking stuff you've never heard before, but it's got style and personality and it's great music. If you can snag a nice copy of this set, I highly recommend it. The only downside, depending on your point of view, is that you don't get the original LP running order here, but the session order as it was recorded. No big deal, but I still ended up buying a copy of "True Blue" on CD because I wanted to have a version of the album in the original running order.
