The Psychedelic Furs - S/T

Although these guys would come up with a much slicker sound a few years later, this is straight up post-punk. There are definitely some Roxy-isms and Bowie-isms going on here, but I have no problem with that. Worth checking out if you've avoided this band based on their later material. You might dig this. Now, I do like their next two albums quite a bit and even some of their later singles, but none of that quite matches this LP.

^Great stuff LM, I like that Scratches and Needles track by the Nils, I'm gonna have to add that comp to my collection of to-get punk comps now. Rock On

Last night...

Gangs - Gangs Cassette EP (New Los Angeles) 2014

^So this tape is pretty amazing in a something different kind of way. I definitely could be called out as a hipster for even owning this music by people who use that word sparingly because it's "that" kind of cool (whatever "that" is). I'm not even going to attempt to describe this music, I'd fail miserably because this cannot be put into any box. I'll just default to their own description of the music. Apparently they are a "Modern American Electro-Surf-Proto-Punk-Rhythm-and-Blues Duo."

I'll admit, after I read that description on UGHH.com, curiosity pulled me in. I was already buying a Hip Hop tape and it costs nothing more to ship one more tape so this was a good impulse buy.

Once again, I can't describe the drastically different songs safely, but I'll mention I could see this mixing well in between Devo's earliest work and LCD Soundsystem's mellower stuff.

I can't say enough good things about these guys. I like pretty much everything they have ever done.

Belle and Sebastian - Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance

Avoided this band for a long time. When I first heard them in the late 90s thought they were trying too hard to rip off Bryter Layter-era Nick Drake and were overly self-consciously twee in a bad way. Earlier this year I gave a couple tracks from this album a shot and ended up liking them enough to want the album.

This one is the 4x12'' edition packaged as a box set. The individual 12''s have extended mixes on them that aren't on other formats and are all A-side 45rpm w/B-side @ 33rpm.

I know some longtime fans did not like this record but personally I think it's really good.
